I’d say his Dad Barney did. Do you remember him? This might jog your memory!
Fluke
A team operating at a different level doesn’t get taken to replays or win a load of games narrowly. See Kilkenny circa 2007
I’d say it was ringworm that keeper had
Kk had no real rival in 2007 and 2008. They met two average teams in the finals . Tipp arrived in 2009 and things got lively then for a few years .
100% correct.
I agree. You could even say they were operating at a different level to everyone else.
The last 15 minutes is when the preparation levels of a professional team who stayed in their own homes the night before will tell over an amateur team who travelled and are seeing their adrenaline levels wane. Dublin are the closest the gaa will ever have to a professional team and that last 15 is where it shows. Sad really, how much would an all Ireland mean to old people in mayo who will die never having seen it. They should have one at least. But instead the gaa decided to massively over fund Dublin buying their dominance.
A galway man crying crocodile tears for old people in Mayo. Lovely.
It’s a number game my man. Pure and simple.
Euros + population = wins
It’s truly bizarre. Imagine if the gaa announced they were going to massively over fund Waterford for the next 15-20 years, allow them employ full time coaches play all games in a redeveloped Walsh park. There’d be outrage and asterisks with any subsequent success. That’s without the population advantage which is obviously massive.
Irish cultural norms are a huge factor here I think. Country people make do, expect to be ignored, and for Dublin to receive extra funding and assistance. Dubliners expect the gubbermint to step fully in when they can’t organise themselves and to help out, and don’t think there’s anything amiss with that. I can’t see how else it would be acceptable. There’s a thesis in there.
You can’t fight the numbers
Most of Dublin’s GAA success has been built off East Galway farmer’s sons and grandsons (cc David McWilliams) getting jobs in professional services firms in Dublin and GAA usurping rugby in SoCoDu as the sport of choice
Which makes the funding by the government and gaa even more unnecessary and less understandable
Shane Walsh was very close to being a Dub too.
I’d gladly watch Dublin win another 5 all Irelands if it contributes to the further demise of rugby.
It certainly is pal. 7 out of the last 9 and 5 in a row.
He might of got a few runs in the O Byrne cup.
Very little about rugby in the media these days. Seems to have lost some of its lustre lately.
And thank fuck for that. An upside of the corona crisis.
