Dublin GAA Thread

I think the main point of the article is that if it was all about Coaching & Games money the Hurlers would be winning All Ireland’s. It’s a decent well researched article. Denis Walsh is a good journalist.

I see Dean Rock has got a lovely cushy no show job.

If I want financial advice, I’m going to a Dublin footballer tbf.

The same Denis Walsh who managed Cork hurlers? Sean Og gave him a bad doing in his autobiography.

Likewise, said I’d stay hurling until I start to get roasted and not enjoying it. Loving it and holding my own nicely. Have another few years in me hopefully.

Sean Og wasnt happy with Gerard either, what was the issue with Denis Walsh?

He took issue with JBM over the selection of Seamie Harnedy too

The main thing I notice about it is that pretty much all teams go out and hurl too. You would hardly see a dirty stroke in a league games in the lower divisions and there is a good competitive spirit to it. Once the lower Championships get to knockout stages there is a good physicality to them but no real timber or bollocksing like you might get back home

It was a decent article alright. Walsh is always worth reading. However I thought it was a bit nice. The Cunningham era was a complete clusterfuck and wasn’t mentioned. Kenny hasn’t been a roaring success either.

Yeah he took an awful dig at St. Ita’s. Some speech Denis Walsh gave about a man having a bad All-Ireland against Kilkenny and that man subsequently being Denis Walsh himself.

largely sporting alright, fagan o dowd will be along with a few stories of the old days when there was a bit more timber

Yes, loads :grinning:

For context there are 250 players registered for astro on one astro pitch in Malahide

Do any of them play GGA sports too?

astro association football? such numbers must be the reason we are such a force in international association football

They are astronomical numbers pal.

It’s a global.pro game.mate, you wouldn’t understand

We train twice a week and wouldn’t have less than 18 there majority of the nights no matter what weather and we’re a third team in the club.

Yeah there never is any bad strokes at all. Lads just go out and play a game. The only sending off I’ve came across were from back chat to refs. Some of them are brutal and don’t know the rules at all.

We have a WhatsApp group with over 50 names on it for the team. I doubt we’ve ever had more than 18 at a league game. 20 for championship. There is a core of 6/7 of us that are there for every game. After that it could be any body. Two years ago we used 7 different goal keepers and all were sufficient for our level. The mgmt do a great job ensuring we have a team every day. A successful year they say is one where they stay up and don’t give away a walk over.

That’s great numbers. We would try train once a week. Numbers would rarely get into double figures often just 3 of us. 3rd team also.

Yeah I was thinking it was a bit unique, mostly all young lads and absolutely love hurling. Helps when you’re going well I suppose and a lot came through the ranks together.
