Yes!! We did it⌠Delighted for my gym buddy, and Cork City goalkeeping coach, Phil Harrington. He was in bullish mood yesterday and confident of getting a win.
Some rivalry between these two.
I got to it at min 26. Was very interesting.
Dundalk are definitely a slightly more skillful and dangerous team. And more individually tactically astute. City could never do in Europe what Dundalk have with present tactics and arguably players.
You can see why City drop silly points here and there in the league because they are not set up to punish teams and are set up in such a fashion that if one or 2 lads have an off day they are in trouble. However Dundalk are more flexible and its more fluid.
Caufield is learning on the job, and clearly progressing, its obvious enough the 2 coaches come from vastly different coaching backgrounds. Having said that its good to see a coach make his way thru the ranks in this fashion. Too much âfast trackingâ of players thru badges etc and them getting no experience and most failing quickly.
@mickee321, isnât Kevin OâConnor a very good player? I was very pleased for the Curracloe native today while Greg Bolger lifting the trophy will also have been warmly received in his New Ross homeplace. There are strong bonds between Cork and New Ross.
I thought Dundalk were the better side overall and it was very cruel to lose a final to a deflected effort at the death. Cork were much improved after half time in fairness to them and had some decent chances themselves. Browne and Bennett were very solid at the back too.
Cork probably need another central midfielder and wide player along with a striker to supplement the excellent Maguire to consistently challenge Dundalk. Young Ogbene looks like he has potential though and could make a big impact next season.
Srfc will walk the league next year
The war criminal certainly had them motoring at the back end of the season but I canât see Sligo sustaining a title challenge.
Ill gut you
Mickee
Given you knowledge of contractual matters in LOI do you have any notion how many of the players today will be at the same club next season ???
Btw would Cobh folk be happy with todayâs result ???
The diehard ramblers fans wonât be too pleased Ashman.
Good . Great to see local bitterness .
Isnât he a taff ???
Mcphail got the sporting director gigâŚ
Why a sporting director ??? What other sports do Shams play ?? Are ye branching out to hurling ??
McFail ???
Looks like srfc notre dame are reforming
TSG
The Hoops shoot the Hoops ???
Dundalk were the better footballing side but they should have taken their chances to win it, and fell asleep at a crucial stage. Maguire wasnât given much opportunities throughout, but did look dangerous when he did see the ball and punished them in the end.
It was slightly annoying to see Cork revert to type, lumping long balls to Maguire in a footballing sense. I was there as a neutral and I felt myself naturally supporting Dundalk because of the styles of the two teams. Winning is all that counts, I suppose, but I think that Cork were well capable of going toe-to-toe with them on the day; they did earlier in the season and Dundalk were just after coming back from Russia.
Great way to win a match though, pretty much last kick of the game.
Aye, the train to kent station will be full of skinheads wanting aggro when city get back.
