Thatās a good start ref whitewash
Never heard of her before to be honest.
How was Barry defamed? He was a controversial figure, lots of good contemporary republicans had little time for him
First page of its rulebook it talks about politics thus excluding over 1 million people.
Its no wonder its the least diverse sport in Ireland
Iāll get her name
Well one she denied that there was any shenanigans ref false surrender
Clearly was
Another vaguely his men connected to that protestant massacre
Of that whole family around Bandon etc
I must know of her
Thereā was ructions over it,
Tom Kellihers so no was dragged into it as werr othr significant kilmichael ppls close relatives
Probably not the right thread.
You know well that there was conflicting reports of exactly how Kilmichael went down, you sound like you are a devotee of Barry,
The false surrender bit is widely accepted but I wouldnāt believe everything Barry said, if he was chocolate heād have eaten himself around 1921
I am an admirer of him yes, proud to have met him , and a few of his men
Also got first hand account of Collins and what happened,
But as you say not the time or place,
Iāve my own opinion as has everyone,
I come from a different Ireland aswell,
Had proud nationalist Gaelic loving teachers,
Not afraid to tell it as it was,
Curriculum went out the window at times
He never took the soup
Unlike Collins
My viewpoint and not arguing or swaying from it
Another point is to a large segment of the nationalist population in the 6 counties
Bobby Sands,Patsy O Hara and company are Pearse and McDonagh etc
They ppl in the free state generally donāt get it
Yet Bobby Sands etc ate basically airbrushed out of history down here
Itās mad
Iād have to say that Bobby Sands and his sacrifice are some of the most recognised names and deeds in Irish history, thereās probably been a bit of airbrushing but not for him (IMO)
Maybe not
But certainly not much taught about either Michael Gaughan or Stagg
I was at Kevin Lynchās funeral, and prior to that ( same day was on a visit to long kesh ( H Blockās)
Hos body was battered
The curriculum is all about blow jobs now.
My sons leaving cert history didnāt do much ref either of the hunger strikes
Small bot of civil rights etc
But F all compared to what we were taught both in primary and secondary
Iām not sure what is on the leaving cert curriculum but it canāt be everything obviously, if thereās a section on āthe troublesā then the H block protests could only be a small part of that,
When I did my leaving the content of the course ended in 1966
For obvious reasons history canāt be taught in the old Christian Brother way
Presentation brothers did good for us ref history
Rest in peace to the men and women of 1916 and all those that gave their lives for our freedom.
And all the brave men and women of the Provisional IRA
All republican soldiers
Imprisoned in Cork, Belfast, wormswood scrubs, and a little holiday in Wales
He also never took the soup
