I think I read before that when Lynch was killed the Free Staters had initially thought it was Dev they had got.

Gway?
Pity it wasn’t
The cur executed republican prisoners later on

Today. Low key enough. Not as good as the Dan Breen one. Went up to the monument on the mountain after. That was impressive.

It’a vv impressive

Main thing is you were there
My first attending a proper one in decades
Always went on my own but thoroughly enjoyed it yesterday

I was at the monument in 1973 for the 50th. That was a different dynamic. In the middle of the worst of the Troubles and lorry loads of Provos down from the north in attendance.

The Saoradh lads from Bellaghy were otherwise occupied today i think.

Lynches pals used to take the piss out of him and call him Father Liam etc because he had such a priestly look

Some priest :+1::joy:

That’s Dev you’re on about?
If so a relation of mine, nanas relation and a volunteer called Declan Swanton
Planted a bomb in or around the plot in st Finbarrs cemetery
As Dev was invited to attend ( and maybe speak)
Anyways bomb went off
Swanton died,
Gerry Madden seriously injured.
Officially they were planting it but rumor had it they were hoping Dev went up with it.

Obviously hassle with Dev was his government executed republican prisoners etc

My nana was a Madden from Ballintemple
Her bro was a volunteer after he deserted the British army during the first world war

So that’s the Madden connection,somehow

Heard whispers bit nothing concrete growing up
