Are there many examples of candidates who performed poorly in local elections and are now favoured to get a TD seat.
I can see one in Carlow/Kilkenny.
Itâs a curious example of failing upwards. Itâs like being taken off for the U14s and being started for the Minors. 
Example I have is Natasha Newsome Drennan(Sinn Fein)
In the Piltown local elections she was 7th of 12 in first preference votes. 5 seater, came 6th and unelected.
Currently is 4/7 for a seat today in Carlow/Kilkenny.
The obvious explanation is people voting for the party as opposed to the candidate which we saw a lot of last time especially Sinn Fein.
Fine Gael 2 seats in Carlow/Kilkenny. 10/1 Boyles.
David Fitzgerald is 2/5 for a seat
Michael Doyle is 9/4
Catherine Callaghan is 5/2
I think Fitzgerald will get in. Then you just need one from those two. I donât get the 10/1. Having a nibble.
Possible they cross cannibalise each other. Ideally one under performs and one over performs and Fitzgerald gets in with something to spare. As I said I think the SF candidate is weak. There is a SocDem candidate in the mix and Malcom Noonan is outgoing Green TD.
Looks like this will come up short.
Based on tallies Murphy has broken through my magic 8k figure alright, but Mattie has had a great day and broken 9k again. Mattie has got 2,500 in West Tipp an area I thought OâHeney would totally cannibalise.

Great excitement. Currently in fifth behind egghead i think with a slight lead over the second fg schmuck. . All about transfers. Harris the snivelling cunt has polled extremely well and in true egomaniac style (cc willie o d, o briens of fingal) has gobbled all the votes hopefully making timmins vulnerable. Hopefully our Shay stays in to benefit from all the transfers and gets some from that cunt Harrisâ too. Weâre in a battle here but we are fighters and will fight for every last vote. Cc @Bandage

Carlow FG candidate very impressive, I think. She lives in Goresbridge though, in and around same territory as Chap Cleere, wondering how that will play out
