Electric Picnic

Circular economy lads, they’re creating employment by leaving all their shit there.

Not all the tents can be reused and I know a lot of sleeping bags get collected each year and are cleaned up for use in the winter, but a huge amount of stuff will be bulldozed and probably end up in landfill. It’s an awful waste but doesn’t just happen at EP.

The mess in the campsites is something else, you have people who don’t appear to put anything in bins, they literally just drop empty cans etc right beside where they are sitting or sleeping, it’s shocking.

I can see why damaged or particularly mucky tents get left behind and I guess if you have 4 or 5 lads chipping in to buy a tent for the weekend then who is the one to pack it up and bring it home and clean it up for next time? They probably aren’t too bothered if it has only cost them less than €100 each.

I’m not really sure what the answer is other than EP employing loads of people to manage the campsites and try and keep them clean.

I stayed in Eco a few times and they were able to do that, but I’d say it’s impossible to enforce in the big campsites.

Not sure how you stop someone from just getting up and walking out of the place with all their junk left behind.

The site itself as a marked improvement this year, there appeared to be a greater number of staff going around picking and cleaning. It might be a way to go but I presume it much cheaper and easier to just bulldoze after.

Sadly it’s a microcosm of the throwaway society we now live in. Even lives are thrown away

Charge a deposit per tent site, not returned until your site is clean. An old drone or two to confirm site clean then so others dont fuck all their waste on to someone who cleaned up theirs

You think people get assigned a tent site?

Happens elsewhere and clearly something needs to bring about change

Ha, thats hilarious. I’d love to see that enforced.

Youre tenting in my spot bro…

Yeah, the deposit kind of enforces it. Thats the point

I jumped the fence one year on the Saturday with an underpants in my pocket and went home the Sunday. Another year I went down and a fella had robbed a box of wristbands and was selling them for 50 quid a pop in the car park

That could only really be enforced in the prebooked campsites where people are assigned pitches and you know who is staying where.

I guess even at that you’d still have people dumping gear at the bins or elsewhere around the site rather than bring it home.

It would obviously be great if everyone cleaned up after themselves but its hardly a big deal that a private company have to spend money on clean up for a festival that they make loads of money on

Get a GAA team out to clean it in the guise of being humble.

Are the Dubs still sweeping the sheds or was that only while they were winning the All Irelands. I didn’t hear it this year.

The All Blacks shat in the middle of the floor in the dressing room in Cape Town last weekend.
