The Labour Party are far more ruthless as well.

IMO Ruari Quinn was the last decent leader of the Labour Party. Probably because he wasn’t a member of the workers party.

He was actuallly a visionary. Responsible for development of Docklands in a joined up way and the lower corporate tax rate

He was one of the more honest TDs who knocked around Leinster House during his tenor. Fully admitted the timing of the 97 election was wrong. Both Rabbit and Gilmore were weak leaders too interested in their own political careers to do anything. This legacy was carried on by Burton who was nothing if not power hungry. Can’t see Howlin changing anything soon. Next election is pivotal for them as another bad one will see them eventually swallowed up by SF.

Brendan Howlin is a good guy.

I don’t disagree but he has a huge task ahead of him trying to repair the damage the other 3 fuckwits did.
Theyll never catch SF either and might be left with no choice but to merge in the mid to long term.
If Adams was to go in the morning, there would be a considerable upswing in SF and a lot of those gains would come from what’s left in Labour

Merge with SF? Are you sauced up?

FGs manifestos for the previous eletions never cried stop mate?

in fact it was the opposite

No just realistic Harry. They might not have a choice. Merge, be taken over by. Call it what you want. Anyway I would think the thought of SF gobbling up labour would have you lads salivating

Labours core support wouldn’t dream of joining SF ffs. Labour know their place, poll well & maybe go into coalition. They know they will never be big enough or popular enough to lead.

Labour are losing ordinary union members votes to SF and AAA by the score every week. This was their base traditionally. Party is in big trouble imo

Nobody follows through election promises.

Except the Donald

Lets give him a year.

Why is that so mad?

Both sides would have some deep socialist values.

I’d imagine it would be anathema to much of Labours grassroots. The politicians only care about their seats but it won’t happen.

Don’t agree thats the case everywhere.

The likes of John O’ Brien in Cork are essentially Old Labour types. Many of the new SF are socialists and very locally active which is something Labour have lost.

I’m sure the dynamic might be different in some places like upper middle suburbia and the more socially conscience may still be too far removed from SF.

I think people are looking for a major 3rd party and that might be the way to get it. And they would have huge sway.

SF and Labour are not socialist parties .

Ah the Indo, what a newspaper.
