ENGLAND Supporters Thread - World Cup 2018, Russia Here We Come

The beep were in bullish form as England played really well for 25 minutes in the first half against Tunisia.

It’s brilliant to watch them fall. Compelling viewing at each tournament …

By the by, Gordon Henderson is getting lots of praise for his performance last night?? A new low for England if he’s the star man.

They are happy to win !! Imagine that .

He drove a team with a net spend of a couple of million for a CL final . That lad is a force of nature .

They’re absolutely delighted with a win over a team with no good players. It’s quite strange

I think overall they were happy with a win after an okish performance ( game wasn’t good tbh) . Most there who know the game are well aware of the squad’s limitations .

WCs always tend to make the masses go a bit over the top . I miss ROI not being there for the hysteria .

Just happy to win the opening game of the tournament - something Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Spain and Portugal all failed to do.

A team can’t win the World Cup in the first game of the tournament, but they can make it much more difficult for themselves to do so.

And they can then lose any chance of doing so in the second game.

England know this only too well after 2014, as do Spain.

The list of notable group stage casualties in recent World Cups is a significant one - Colombia 1994, Spain 1998, France, Argentina and Portugal 2002, Italy and France 2010, Spain, Italy, England and Portugal 2014.

The group is all about securing one of those precious tickets to the knockout stages, and then, let the cards fall as they may.

At the moment, it looks like England have a good chance of being dealt a good hand in that regard, and that’s all you can ask for at this stage.

Great post, let’s stop the bickering and just get behind our boys in Russia, cc @Dooley

Has there been any violence yet?

No. The English fans have been ‘blown away’ with the warm welcome they have received.

This is Stalingrad 2018, not Stalingrad 1942.

There would be a heap of posters out in russia in an air b n b watching where in the world through an apple tv.

And organizing little races in shopping malls.

They’d be in bed half the day sleeping off the vodka

Lovely little moment of heartfelt pathos from Lineker last night. Beeb have a feature on the war memorials of volvograd, the “contribution” of the “one million” Russians who died in the battle of Stalingrad etc. The camera goes back to gary staring intently at the autocue ; “puts football in perspective doesn’t it”, before switching back to cheeky chappie gary mode.
Lovely so it was.

Dicky Dunne reckons England will be found out. Dunphy the same… Michael O’Neill a bit more measured and recognizes that it’s early doors. He is still not overly confident.

You’d think the one place you’d be safe is in a Volvo.

He’s so sincere.

Fuckit yeah, complacency would really have been the right thing there,
It is really strange that they are happy with an injury time win,
