Iniesta was playing as an inside forward
Bisque’s was playing as a sweeper
Its probably still the best midfield in the world though
I wonder when was the last time an England squad for a major tournament didn’t feature a Liverpool player?
40 years i think i saw earlier
Euro 2008.
England have an embarrassment of riches. But they are all in the same position.
Absolutely mental not to bring Trent imo. Fair enough don’t start him. But there’ll be a game where they are struggling to unlock some team sitting deep and he’d be a brilliant option to bring on.
Some of those defenders are muck.
Tommy Tuchel has some rod made for his back already if they don’t win it.
I saw a team of players England aren’t bringing to the World Cup and they’d bate Ireland 4-0.
Time to pounce on Delap now while his star is waning
Last World Cup they never brought a Liverpool player was 1986. Which seems mental considering they were the best team in England in the 80s and mostly English and Scotch lads.
I’ve come to the conclusion we’re as well off without him. He’s a nawful carthorse
He’s more dangerous from deep or even inside his own half playing vertical balls into the channels for those quasi-wingers cutting in. When do you see him playing conventional crosses as an overlapping full-back? I’d absolutely still bring him when they’re leaving the likes of Foden and Palmer at home. Tuchel will rely on strictly formulaic creativity it seems.
Liverpool’s team in the 1986 FA Cup final contained no player from the neighbouring country of England.
Absolutely agree re trent. They will be crying out for creativity at some stage. Also think its mental not to bring foden or cole. 2 lads who do something different.
However, they will walk into the quarters…and then its just 2 games till the final. They will be solid as fuck and defensive and look to nick goals. I pray to all gods that it won’t happen… .
Kane is going to be dropping so deep, Saka moves toward the ball as well; its going to be Bellingham crashing the box and Rashord making the runs in behind and being an outlet. I think he’s come to the conclusion that Kane/Foden/Palmer all want to play in the half spaces and won’t run beyond so has gone with Kane. Ballysy to leave both of the lads out though.
I’m surprised he hasn’t found a spot for Trent and Maguire in tournament scenario when chasing but he’d pobably argue that they’ll be chasing if they’re relying on Trent on Maguire one v one or one the turn.
Guehi covers LB/LCB and Maguire covers both sides at centreback so its interesting he’s gone for Burn, but Burn is quick relatively and can defend big areas isolated, he’s quick for a big man
Maguire woild be destroyed for example v France. Mbabbe, Dembele, Doue, Barcola, Olise, you need speed to deal with their threat. Ironically Maguire would be a better bet in the other box with 5 minutes to go.
A cunt-free zone…can only be a good thing for them.
Would he even start when we have Parrott and Ferguson? It’s Kieran Dewsbury Hall or Alex Scott that we need for midfield.
They have a tough route this time I reckon. The Telegraph have a predictor online. Their route was Norway (Round of 32), hosts Mexico (Round of 16), Brazil (quarter-final), Argentina (semi-final) and Spain or France in the final. That would be an unprecedented run of results for England to need.
The starting Liverpool team of 86 cup final which won double famously had zero English players . Lawrenson was the only one even born in England
I dunno,Henderson > Wharton? @neilld what’s the thinking here, bizarre to me? To me Whartons also better than Anderson too
Henderson is there for leadership. Harry Kane not the man to lead men off the boats
