Absolutely mental not to bring Trent imo. Fair enough don’t start him. But there’ll be a game where they are struggling to unlock some team sitting deep and he’d be a brilliant option to bring on.

He’s more dangerous from deep or even inside his own half playing vertical balls into the channels for those quasi-wingers cutting in. When do you see him playing conventional crosses as an overlapping full-back? I’d absolutely still bring him when they’re leaving the likes of Foden and Palmer at home. Tuchel will rely on strictly formulaic creativity it seems.

Absolutely agree re trent. They will be crying out for creativity at some stage. Also think its mental not to bring foden or cole. 2 lads who do something different.

Kane is going to be dropping so deep, Saka moves toward the ball as well; its going to be Bellingham crashing the box and Rashord making the runs in behind and being an outlet. I think he’s come to the conclusion that Kane/Foden/Palmer all want to play in the half spaces and won’t run beyond so has gone with Kane. Ballysy to leave both of the lads out though.
I’m surprised he hasn’t found a spot for Trent and Maguire in tournament scenario when chasing but he’d pobably argue that they’ll be chasing if they’re relying on Trent on Maguire one v one or one the turn.
Guehi covers LB/LCB and Maguire covers both sides at centreback so its interesting he’s gone for Burn, but Burn is quick relatively and can defend big areas isolated, he’s quick for a big man
Maguire woild be destroyed for example v France. Mbabbe, Dembele, Doue, Barcola, Olise, you need speed to deal with their threat. Ironically Maguire would be a better bet in the other box with 5 minutes to go.

They have a tough route this time I reckon. The Telegraph have a predictor online. Their route was Norway (Round of 32), hosts Mexico (Round of 16), Brazil (quarter-final), Argentina (semi-final) and Spain or France in the final. That would be an unprecedented run of results for England to need.
