Zonal marking strikes againâŚ
Gary Neville spoofing and blaming it on zonal marking.
Itâs bad defending you idiot. Van Persieâs hat-trick nowhere near the quality of Pazziniâs last night.
FFS sake.
If zonal marking is carried out anyway effectively Van Persie doesnât get into that position. Itâs bad defending - nothing to do with zonal marking.
Brilliant from a randomer on Twitter: âVan Persie runs, arms aloft, to the fans who used to call him a rapist. Beautiful scenes.â
Exactly. He scored it from a zone. A pretty important zone actually. It was inept defending that allowed him the free header. And thatât not surprising because Southamptonâs defence is manned by inept players.
I did find it funny when Gary started screaming about how this is the best league in the world (again) and how no other league could write the same script. But the standard of defending in other leagues is generally much better. Southampton were a goal up with 5 minutes to go and allowed 2 free headers in that time.
Hear, hear. The Brits are stupid.
He comes across as a cunt.

Decent result for Villa up in Geordie land . Irish international Clark with the goal. Given wont be getting back in anytime soon as Guzan had a fine game. The Dutch born Moroccan international Karim El Ahmadi looks like a real find by Lambert.
I was thinking that at the time. Pathetic really.

But the point is it was the zonal marking system but performed very poorlyâŚ

What he does in his spare time wouldnât be of much concern to me as long as he keeps banging in hat-tricks.
The point is it was bad defending. You canât blame a system if you donât carry it out as you should. The system is not to blame for the goals as many âpunditsâ seem to keep referencing, the players and more importantly, the coaching is the main problem. The defending in the EPL is absolutely diabolical.
Rvp dragging United through that game much like he was dragging Arsenal through games last year. Dont let todays win hide the fact that Uniteds defence is a shambles. Evra needs to be taken out and give Buttner a chance.
Can we give RVP the thumbs up ??
Hes been worth every penny so far. I dont know if Rooney would have done that today.
Badly needed a defensive midfielder but once again Ferguson chose not to reinforce. Garcia would have been a decent purchase but Utd seemed determined to try to get Witsel.
Buttner seemed like an odd choice but hopefully he can force Evra to up his game which has been a shambles for the last two years.
RVP is some man to carry a team though.
Decent performance in the second half from the Villa. Gabby made a decent impact when he came on and we had two really good chances to win it. Cracking goal from Ben Arfa.
Villa playing very narrow in midfield under Lambert but to do that you need two attacking full backs. Lowton was alright but Lichaj canât kick the ball with his left foot. Hopefully Bennett can settle in to left back quickly and will be between Lowton and Lichaj for the other slot. Guzan was good alright. Braver than Given and more mobile. Out for every ball lumped into the box. Though he is poor at kicking the ball. Particularly from the hand.
Clark was solid enough and did well for the goal. Flicking it out wide first and then taking up a great spot for the header. He scores a nice few goals. Still needs to win a few more physical exchanges. Big call to pick him ahead of Baker but he rewarded Lambert with a decent display. Big call too to drop Given going back to Newcastle but it was the right one. We badly lack quality in midfield though. Holman ran around like a headless chicken. Bannan set up the goal and did alright but is very lightweight. The Cobh man did well in the second half but for a player with his ability he doesnât get many assists or goals . Should have really scored that volley.
For Newcastle, their front two were poor. Cisse in particular was muck. Wonder if he might
struggle a bit this season. Wonder goal from Ben Arfa aside they were pretty average and badly missed Tioteâs presence in midfield.
Poor Andrew Carroll is out for 6 weeks with a hamstring injury.
Thatâs not too bad rumour was he was going to be gone for much longer
