Didn’t see either game but that’s another poor result for United. I wonder will they now finally admit they need a striker.
Anyone want to fill me in with brief assessments of the two big games?

Couldn’t really see the Liverpool game cause I was working but Liverpool were robbed. Chelsea were rewarded a penalty that was never a penalty in a million years. Shocking. Ronnie Whealen said it was the worst penalty decision he has ever seen. All in all I heard liverpool played pretty good and Torres scored an excellent goal.
Thanks - heard that about the penalty alright but haven’t seen it yet.
What made that penalty decision worse was the fact the referee was standing literally five yards from it. Basically Wright-Phillips rolled the ball across and Malouda ran in and jumped over it (trying to dummy it) and straight into Finnan who just stood his ground and the ref gave it. Unbelievable. Torres took his goal beautifully and Liverpool were far and away the better side. I find Chelsea pathetic. They spend about GBP250m over three years and they’re basically a long ball, tough to break down, set piece team.
Micah Richards had an incredible game at centre back for Manchester City today and he, along with Richard Dunne, repelled countless attacks from Manchester United, who dominated possession. Excellent technique by Geovanni for his goal too.
If Martin Jol is under pressure then surely Ferguson should be sacked?
Great performance by Liverpool I felt and should’ve been rewarded with a victory. Pretty much dominanted Chelsea throughout. It’s early doors but from what I’ve seen so far Liverpool can win the league. Rob Styles is an absolute idiot. Always has been. Always will be. Strutting about like he’s one of the lads. He definitely booked either Essien or Ben Haim again because Terry had already been given his yellow when Styles brandished another. We were robbed.
While the penalty was a hilarious travesty, Liverpool got what they deserved. Great early goal then what? Sit back and hope.
Benitez always tries to defend a lead, never increase it. He only went for it again after the Chelsea goal. Maybe someday he’ll learn…
As much as I love you Juhniallio I’m afraid I have to disagree. Liverpool didn’t sit back. They were comfortable and dominant despite not doubling their advantage. It was terrible being pegged back by those moany, whingey coonts in such a style(s).
I think its more physcological then that. If you go one up against a top team then the natural reaction for Chelsea is to push for an equaliser and the natural reaction for the Liverpool players is to defend the lead. As Mourinho said after the match, Chelsea were playing for the draw so as soon as they went behind they pushed for a goal which is obviously going to put Liverpool on the back foot. Obviously when they got their equaliser, the opposite was going to happen as Chelsea were going to play for the draw.
From what I saw Liverpool didnt sit back and hope but just defended when they needed to. Can anyone who did see the whole game confirm that?
I can confirm Gerry.
Styles dropped for next weekend’s fixtures.
Liverpool Chelsea was a turgid affair - wasnt expecting much more with 2 kick & rush teams
in regards the other game Sven is showing how good a manager he is -now that he is working with tactically aware & technical players he is doing well- i always felt sorry for him when he was the stuck with your typical english up & at em dullards such as gerrard & lampard
why did ferguson sell rossi & smith

I didn’t see the Liverpool game Raven but I’d agree that both sides certainly aren’t easy on the eye from what I’ve seen of them in other games. Hardly surprising to read it was a turgid affair given the styles of both sides. Match probably compared poorly against Celtic Aberdeen yesterday where both sides try and get the ball down and play with it.
As regards your other point on Sven I disagree with you. I think he might get away with doing okay in the League but can’t see Man City progressing in Europe for example under his tenure.

Good points there piper. Very astute. Clown.
thats true - europe is a step too far probably - just think he must be delighted that he isnt limited to kick & rush merchants ala gerrard ferdinand & crouch & has technical players so he wont have dumb down his tactics like he did with England
missed the Celtic game as Im in Italy but there was a bit about donati in the gazetta
Roma won the super cup

What do you disagree with?
Piper, Raven if ye’ve nothing constructive to say on these threads then just leave them be. Ye have made your points on the EPL before and it’s getting tiresome.
Raven claims he’s in Italy but still managed to find time to watch the EPL game - must be a closet fan.
Piper you didn’t see the games so there’s no point in you speculating. You made some decent points on the SPL thread about the Aberdeen - Celtic game which was a cracker. Why show up your bias by commenting on a match you didn’t even see?
This is an open forum and I’m not in the habit of deleting posts but the rants against the EPL on EPL threads are getting repetitive.
the EPL game was on before the super cup - the expression chalk & cheese comes to mind
Liverpool aren’t a long ball team and played some lovely, neat football at times which is quite tough to do against such a highly organised side. Didn’t think it was a turgid affair either although admittedly my view could be a bit biased as I thoroughly enjoyed the game due to Liverpool being in the ascendancy for most of it.
I also wonder what “other” games you’re referring to? Have you seen Liverpool play this season? Maybe you have. I’m just wondering.
No point getting into an SPL/EPL debate but your Celtic comment was clearly designed to be antagonistic. Well done you got me. I did watch Celtic v Falkirk last week and Celtic do play some lovely football in fairness.
Well I commented on Raven’s views on the game. It comes as no surprise to me that the match was a poor one. I watched a very good match yesterday that I would have said would compare favourably against it from what I have read. This would not be a view which is expressed a lot in the media so I thought it was a point worth making. Simple as that. Not a rant against the EPL as you describe it rather it is simply an observation on the merits of the the leagues which might have been made before but is worth repeating imo.
i havent seen much of lFC this season -some of the game yesterday and thats it- ,most of my opinion of LFC is based on the last few years- have they changed it a bit? how is torres playing
