Euro 2020 thread (Part 1)

Denmark are like a boring accountant who once in a blue moon goes for a pint, loses the run of himself, goes on an insane bender and shags 2 different women in a night.

Knock on implications for other groups of the final standings in groups A, B and C:

Any team currently on 4 points is assured qualification.

Spain would qualify with a draw against Slovakia if Poland don’t beat Sweden.

Portugal can afford to lose to France by two goals and still qualify, as long as Hungary don’t beat Germany.

Winning Euro 92’ without qualifying, the 2-2 fix with the Swedes in 2004 and this turnaround. They love a good Euros.

Some great games there. Instead if just being shit the “4 best 3rd place teams to advance” format had added a lot of excitement to the final group matches.

England are through now so wonder if they’ll try to get second instead to take advantage of the easier route like in 2018

It’s great to see the Russian fash put out on their arses. Pound for pound the worst football nation around.

They should have just played the whole tournament in Denmark. Anything after this is just a massive anticlimax. That was some drama tonight.

Finish second in the group and England could have a route to the final of Spain, France and Italy/Belgium.

Win the group and you might have a route of Germany, Sweden and Holland.

The latter seems a better route. Plus it would mean they’ve won their last group fixture. England need a win to build confidence.

Nah mate, the Olympics

Mount and Chilwell have to isolate

This could turn out like 86 or 90 for England. When Ray Wilkins got sent off v Morocco and Robson was injured again they changed team around and improved ten fold.
In 1990 the team that played the Republic of Ireland was completely different to the one unlucky to lose semi v Germany. Paul Parker and Mark Wright came in.
Bellingham has to start for England and now he will ahead of Mount. They won’t drop the cart horse up front like they did with Steve Bull in 1990 but they should.

Will Grealish not likely come in for Mount?

I wonder ? I just can’t see England move the ball fast enough regardless , They play at a pedestrian pace. A defeat tonight could mean they go father in the tournament t funny enough .

If Southgate has any ambition to actually win matches instead of trying not to lose and hoping for a set piece or penalty then he’ll drop Rice and play

Phillips Bellingham
Grealish Foden Mount/Sancho

Playing Rice with Phillips is sickening

Bellingham is a kid FFS 17, this is a international tournament not some German Pokal game against division 4 Sour Kraut Fussball cluben. He came on the other night and was blown off the ball with his only touch and receiving treatment, nowhere near physically ready for this level.

Think if you swapped Spock and Southgate, each would improve their new team.

Declan Rice will be at Birmingham within 18 months.

Grealish and Saka into the England team, but they’re persisting with Rice and Philips together.

Surely the Scotland Croatia game will have main billing on RTE?
