This beanpole is causing havoc
Italy have a dreadful major tournament record in the home of football.
They went out in the group stages at both the 1966 World Cup - when they famously had rotten tomatoes pelted at them on their return from defeat by North Korea at Ayresome Park - and the 1996 European Championship.
It looks like they will somewhat improve that record tonight but in truth they were outplayed by Austria and saved by a hairline offside decision. You’d have to say it looks like they can’t handle the pressure of playing in England in major finals.
