Euro 2020 thread (Part 1)

The tournament has been well dumbed down over the years . 24 teams is too many although 8 was too few .

The knockouts will be great .

As an aside it was some achievement by ROI to qualify in 1988 and get within a kick of a ball of qualifying for 1992

The 96 one was great.

1996 was some fucking year.

96 was just one of those zeitgeist moments. Britpop cool. Fantasy football. That Czech team. The Dutch. And of course you had england.

I loved the Swedes and Danes in 92 but it probably lacked a bit in quality as a tournament. The Asia’s kits were iconic and that Danish kit

Euro 2016 gave me the best night of my life.

And for 55 minutes against France in Lyon it was something else.

Took too long to get going. The group stages were too easy so there wasn’t much drama there, except for Ireland and also Portugal IIRC.

I’d actually say Euro 96 was a very underrated tournament. England v Scotland, England v Germany, Karol Poborsky etc. So many iconic moments. Every team in it was class.

Vladimir Smicers first Anfield goal topped off one of the best games you’ll ever see.

Patterson has literally only made that squad from hun pressure. They’ll be put out on their arses early enough by the Croats :croatia:

Suker mugging off Schmichael was iconic

I don’t think the Croats are great at the moment . In decline but still should beat the Scotch

2000 was peak

I don’t think you have seen Pattetson play. Absolute top drawer full back.

I was thinking how i didn’t see Euro 2000 and then remembered i was actually at 3 group stage games.

Fucked off to the US then for the summer as the knock out stages started. Saw none of those games.

You were probably better off . When you are young there is more to life than spending evenings in the month of June watching football on TV .

He has played very little senior football yet . Looked ok to be fair but a bit early

I predict he will be with a top 6 premier league side in 3 to 4 years.

He could also be playing for Falkirk by then

Certainly not as good as they were 3 years ago at the World Cup, pretty much the same players just older.

But Rebic had a great end to the season for Milan; and that Pasalic fella at Atalanta is tidy. Don’t know if they have any real replacement for Mandzukic though.

I guarantee he won’t.

Ah yeah for sure. Saying that, I do very much enjoy major international football tournaments all the same. Enjoyed WC 2014 (group stages at least) and the Euros in 16 too.

Champions League is obviously a much higher level these days but there is still plenty to entertain when you’ve an international tournament on going over a month.
