Euro 2020 thread (Part 1)

Why would he name an extended squad? Strange.

Cowardly from Southgate. Hoping a few get injured to make his decisions for him

He says it’s to do with the European finals involving man united and Man City. Doesn’t want to select a squad and then have players get injured.

Ive a feeling somebody like Luke shaw will get injured.

Big Nat Phillips

Who partners him at CB.

Rhys Williams

Good few fellas tipping Turkey as dark horses. Who exactly are their key men? They’ve done fuck all for over a decade.

Burak Yilmaz got a hat trick against Holland recently

Yilmaz is getting on a bit but he’s just had a great season with Lille. Yazici is also there; he wasn’t a regular for them but still scored a fair handful of goals from the bench.

Calhanoglou is still probably their main man; that Tufan is pretty highly-rated. They also have Soyuncu from Leicester, who is a pretty good centre-back.

Never heard of any of them. Not exactly with stellar clubs. Have they been ripping it up against better opposition or what?

Very hard to see a dark horse win it. Portugal, France and England look very decent. While Germany, Italy, Belgium and Spain will be decent. You’d want massive odds on a turkey or somebody of that ilk wining it.

You’ve never heard of those players? … there’s no point talking to you then.

Soyuncu is a very good defender, if prone to moments of madness (didn’t cover himself in glory at the weekend for Bale’s second). They don’t have any superstars, maybe, but they have lots of players playing for decent clubs.

And Lille did win the French league this year tbf.

Beat the French 2-0 in qualifying, and drew with them in France. Beat the Dutch 4-2 in World Cup qualifying. I also think that Turkish players tend to really want to play for Turkey too, which can help.

Calhanaglou is with AC Milan. I’m fairly sure he had a bit of a season at Real Madrid without every really tearing it up

*he wasn’t at Real Madrid. I was thinking of another fella

Hakan Calhanoglu - a brillant player potentially - was at Leverkusen and now Milan
They have x3 lads i think at Lille, and 2 at Leicster the big center half and Cengis Under
they’ve beaten france in istanbul…i think they’ll give this a rattle , Baku is a home game from them but if they didnt make it out of the group it wouldnt be a major shock either

this is key - croatia also - fellas literally go to war,i reference that game in 2008-
the french/dutch/spaniards can loose it here if fellas arent interested
i expect to see macedonia outdo themselves as well- possibly like albania in 2016

I didn’t know that either, by god. Good point about the Turks being patriotic and wanting to play for their country. That kind of team spirit can take you a long way.

Demiral is also excellent at centre back.

They have a good team but I’d say are very temperamental.

33 man squad. Some joke.

And no Bamford in that 33 man squad.
