A thread for seeking answers to things youâd like to know, from small specific questions to the vast gaps in understanding or knowledge. As a forum of experts, we are eminently qualified to answer our own questions.
Iâll start.
What sort of deal do Go cars have with councils etc that they can park anywhere without paying the parking charges or being clamped? It seems you can drop a go car off in a space in town and it can stay there for a few days. Is go car working as a concept/business model?
Whatâs it all about?
Sorry mate. Looks like this thread will be closed. I was going to tell you and everything.
Every apartment block should have a go car imho
Agreed. Every estate should have a couple. Save hugely on second cars as most driveways have st least 1 car in it all day. It is however the mindshift that is required for people to think that is not just acceptable but desirable. That sharing is virtuous. Would the greens consider employing @Thomas_Brady as the head of holistic mumbo jumbo?
Any idea how the parking for them works by the way?
Weâre back online. Go ahead
Are they not just parked up in a public spot that has no parking fee?
They are not. @Juhniallio go car pay for a permit to the council to allow this free parking. Came in under new regulations. Itâs a brilliant service and the more they bring in the beter.
I used it when living in San Fran, was brilliant. Have zero interest in cars and had little need for one.
Surprised more.rental companies havenât entered the fray given theyâve latent supply

An hourly rental? Have they random drop off/pick up areas?
Hereâs a map of go car locations in Dublin. You need to drop it back in the general vicinity of where you pick it up. Theres loads around the city centre. Can be tricky getting a berlingo or big van on Saturdays but for the cars youâre generally no more than a 5 minute walk from one.
Sinn Fèin? You fucking wanker!
All done by app. Free to sign up then tenner per hour minimum but âŹ2.50 per 15 minutes after if you want to extend. Drop it back to the street you picked it up from. Itâs an insanely cheap and good service and I donât know how they make any money. If you were from Dublin living in the city centre or from another country there is no need whatsoever to own a car really. Rent one of these once a week to do a big shop and thatâs it. âŹ500 a year and you have a car when you need it. Even a cheap car would cost you thousands by comparisom between tax, insurance, depreciation and petrol.
