Fenlon quits as Derry City boss

Pat Fenlon has resigned as manager of Eircom Premier Division club Derry City after just five months in the job.
The former Shelbourne boss, who took over from Stephen Kenny at the Brandywell, is understood to have quit due to personal reasons.

Derry have struggled at the start of their first season under Fenlon and the Candystripes lie fifth in the league.

“We feel we’ve let Pat down as well as ourselves - we’ve lost the best manager in Ireland,” said player Darren Kelly.

Fenlon broke the news to the Derry squad on Tuesday morning.

City lie 11 points behind league leaders St Pat’s after a disappointing scoreless draw with basement club Longford Town on Saturday.

Bit of a surprise no? slow start but still very early days, although i suppose he has cited ‘personal reasons’.

Yeah, big surprise to me alright.

The last couple of years Derry have insisted their manager, staff and players have to base themselves locally rather than commuting up from Dublin, like was the case for a lot of them. Maybe his family found it difficult to settle up there?

Yeah that’s very unexpected. Bandage might be right about the whole living in Derry thing.

Rumors abound that Sean Connor is commited to joining Derry.
