I liked Affliction but would have felt that Carrey was much more deserving than Nolte.

I never saw Life is Beautiful and I don’t ever intend to watch it.

Carey has been so utterly fucking irritating in just about every film he has ever touched, he would need to be in fifteen schindlers lists just to break even.

Aye, if he’s not your cup of tea, I could see that being the case. But he was very good in The Cable Guy, Truman, Man on the Moon, Majestic, Eternal Sunshine to name a handful. While I would also see how he was irritating as fuck in each and everyone of those films also.

He is very understated by his standards in the Truman Show.

The film still called for a slightly off the wall character and he ended up being perfect.

Yes but the bar for Carey being outstanding is simply not being his usual scrappy doo self. He’s as funny as herpes. He manages not to ruin a film just be being in it, and lads reckon he should get an Oscar.
