Fine examples of NIMBYism & great examples of mid density buildings

A tread to record examples of public amenities/much needed housing developments being blocked due to NIMBYism. Examples should have no other solid reason to block planning permission other than NIMBYism

A plight on the development of ireland.

Limerick City West cllr Daniel Butler is concerned at any housing development within 2km of his own home

The Tipp lads weren’t too keen on Limerick winning another AI. Would you consider that nimbyism?

Jaysus, I thought we’d get ten or fifteen minutes in before Limerick winning the All Ireland was mentioned but it wasn’t to be :man_shrugging:

It’s a bank holiday boss. It’s cold. 15 minutes was ambitious :sunglasses:

@Thomas_Brady and the Rubby museum

I wasn’t against it… Just not at the expense of Limerick’s Georgian heritage

Fuck the Georgians

Remember when @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy went on hunger strike to try and stop Lidl opening in Portmarnock.

Simpler times.

That’s a reasonable excuse to oppose planning permission. This tread is solely down to people don’t want public housing or national infrastructure near them despite saying the country needs it

OK. So the opposition to the Rubby museum is nimbyism but not the type we are talking about in this thread…

I’d say everyone who opposes any development feels they have a valid reason. They rarely do

So bike lanes work in an urban environment. I’m shocked. How can people believe cycling lanes and active travel is a bad thing.

My bug bearer is opposition to wind farms or other renewable energy schemes.

Wind farms are a blight on the landscape. There should be no more of them built.

What the alternative? Fracking or Nuclear?

The majority of wind farms will be off shore from now on anyway it seems… Once we get a deep water port sorted. Waterford it seems.

We’ll surely have the auld nuclear fusion nut cracked in another fifty years or so.
