General feeling is indifference. On the whole, most right thinking people are either unconcerned, or think they deserve it. The stuff inside the ground, however, caused more unease, I think partly because it was indiscriminate, and partly as it brought back memories of heysel.
Genuinely, any normal people have been horrified time and again by the behaviour of the English yobs, are ashamed for their countryâs image, and happy enough to see someone stand up to them. If serious injury was avoided, I think theyâd be delighted for the French riot squad to wade in hard and heavy.
The English meeja may reflect the views of the chav minority, but most people, like Ireland, are trying to work and get by. They generally think the hooligans are fat cunts.

Youâd get that any night in a lot of pubs over here. The Irish go to a pub to chat, and drink is a side issue. The English go to a pub to get drunk. It is a hard country, with a lot of angry people, which wells to the surface after drinking.
The middle class English tend to know and avoid trouble spots, and live in relatively safe ghettos. They tend to be reserved as itâs safer. Thatâs just my observation. Ireland is a far nicer country in most respects. If youâve a few pounds, you can insulate yourself a bit over here, but thuggishness is common.
