Can we talk about Cork yet? Beyond the traditional, sombre ‘Cork are Cork’ pronouncements I mean. Unbeaten in four and sitting atop the league table is not a bad return at all for Denis Walsh’s charges, and this weekend they turned out a performance which combined with the showing against the champions suggests the road to recovery may not be as long as anticipated for the rebels. While the headlines from Walsh Park focussed on Eoin Kelly’s 1-17, the real stories lie elsewhere. For starters, are Waterford ever going to stop conceding soft goals? If forwards can saunter through their defence with that ease in the confines of Walsh Park, Davy Fitz must be having nightmares about what they may do in Thurles.
