GAA All Star awards - sponsored by Ferrero Rocher. The chocolate of champions

I have only a passing interest in intercounty football and aside from the A/I semis and final wouldn’t really watch it and I reckon at least 7 of the team have made no impression on me. I had never really heard of them and if asked yesterday which county the likes of Mogan, Crealy, Lennon, Gallen etc played for I wouldn’t have known.

Maybe I’m getting old but I think it is as much the malaise of modern football.

I know more of the 02 Armagh side than the 2024 one and I barely remember the 02 final.

This is a direct result of the split season.

Nobody cares.

Dublin being knocked out has always been a huge deal but the Quarter Final this year may as well never have been played.

He’s as windy as his father.

Thought Finnerty was the most consistent across all the games even though his highs weren’t as high as Comer against Mayo or McDaid against Dublin. As I said though I didn’t think he’d get one once he went off injured so early in the final.

That Armagh team is the mirror of their manager, devoid of charisma or sparkle. Dour as fuck, with a no shortage of menace and chippiness. Dublin were dull, but not even half as bad as this Armagh side. Shur look at the Tyrone side that won, who would be a standout from there outside Morgan and the Canavans? And even the Canavans, while talented, are also benefiting from their dads legacy.

Bland. Like the modern game.

Tear it up ta fuck.

Let’s be having ye.

Have an KK players a hope at all?

None, not a hope.

Will Kyle Clink be the only Limerick player?

Not sure he was nominated…

Isn’t he up for hurler of the year sure?

Nickie Quaid will get goalkeeper. He maybe the only Limerick recipient although Dan Morrissey is the most deserving.

Why would it have?

In a nut shell.

SOD winning HOTY will be the highlight of this year really, and the last number of years in fact.

A lot of very plain looking Johns and Janes in that audience.

A sure sign of rugby usurping the GAA in the pecking order of sports in this country.

Marty isn’t well

Looks like he was caught out in the rain before the show started.
