The more long term the punt, the more i enjoy it by far. Even if it doesnt win it can be a great journey following it.
Like i had the Kilmacud Hurlers to win Dublin in May this year and they ended up beaten by a last puck goal in the Final in October so I should have devastated but i wasn’t really.
No price out yet but Clare should be a 6/4 shot to be promoted from division 3 of the football. Peter Keane great appointment, Sexton and Eoin Cleary are back and Westmeath only got promoted over them by way of a controversial square ball goal.
I’d echo Waterford winning the 1B. They’ll play Dublin in the final who’ll be on the back foot with new manager and the likes of Burke and Curries having a break after club All Ireland minus Eoghan O Donnell aswell.
Camogie is completely dependent on the draw. So if Tipp are actually 11/2 that sounds decent - they had another good year last year and squad even better this year
Galway probably at nothing especially given the success of Sarsfields and the issues between Hopper McGrath and Cathal Murray probably means they’ll maybe even lose more players. Also not sure on Niamh Mallon’s status for them. Her transfer to Sarsfields resulted in her actually playing no Championship for them and playing with her actual home club in the North.
Cork are good but not unbelievable by any means.
Waterford have Jerry Wallace in charge again, so count them out.
I suppose it’s between Cork and Tipp for me with Galway outsiders.
My big interest this year will be Roscommon in the Rackard - were massive outsiders to reach final last year and only lost out on score difference in getting there. Sligo who have been relegated into it had a bad year last year and I think a mostly new management team in. Rossies same management mostly and no panel losses that will hurt them, which is huge at that level. Have added players too that are good. Only issue potentially is a good league campaign would probably wreck any value. They should be favs for it but I think bookies will have Mayo favs and Sligo 2nd favs unless league changes all of that. If they were 4/1 or better it would be lump territory or maybe double territory with a Lory Meagher team.
You can’t. His in game management is deplorable and the game plan left a lot to be desired last year. Although they won the league ( real smash & grab effort too ) they were badly setup v Waterford in Munster and again against Galway……
Maybe he’ll make me eat my words, hope he does as he has some very talented players and he needs to let them hurl imo.
Going to put 1pt on Ballinderry tomorrow v Austin Stacks in the club intermediate football semi finals to qualify @ 10/3
Also 0.5pts on them HT/FT at 11/1 both with Boyles.
Reason: Ballinderry are overpriced for this game imo. Yes, Stacks should be strong favourites but any team that comes out of ulster defeating Tyrone & Armagh champions deserves a better price.
Ballinderry were relegated last year due to restructuring of the Derry SFC where they got a shit draw and then only had one chance to stay up, a game which they lost 0-12 to 2-7 after getting rode.
Their wins in the ulster ifc have been tight but in the semi final and final they gave away very soft goals to relinquish comfortable leads.
Arva were a team they defeated in the ulster final and they were very impressive junior club champions last year with a few Cavan seniors.
Ballinderry have as much tradition as stacks after being 2002 senior club champions and have rolls Royce Gareth McKinless in their ranks.
Stacks had an easy run of it in Munster. They beat the 25th best team in cork and a Tipperary side in the final that got a man sent off. I’d read little into those results.
They didn’t cakewalk the Kerry ifc by any means and although they deserve favouritism the 11/1 on Ballinderry ht/ft seems huge.
Hoping to use this log to remain disciplined for the year ahead with proper preparation and justification for any wagers plus appropriate point staking.
On top of Rolls Royce McKinless, Ballinderry have the most talented keeper in Derry who wont commit to taking Big Lynchy’s jersey. Forbes is one of the best young players in Ulster and was making Derry matchday squads in 2024 as an u19 and Bell full forward can kick for fun.
Against that though, of Stacks matchday panel of 30, 24 of them have represented Kerry at Minor, U20/21 or Senior I’m told.
