Friend of mine was telling me his son was an average club footballer at underage and is now on the fringes of intercounty panel after 3 years in UCC and fresher and sigerson football. Better players better coaches, everyone focused on the football etc (he is from predominantly a hurling club)
I posted it here at the time around 2019/2020. I had a work colleague from one of the super clubs and of good hurling stock himself. His young fella was on the Dublin Celtic challenge squad and a solid minor A club hurler. The auld lad reckoned he wouldn’t be hurling past 21 which came to pass. The young fella was put into the fourth team with no real pathway to progress to the upper teams and threw his hat at it at 19.
If he had been in a smaller club he would have been a mainstay on a first team panel for a decade +

MTU +11 vs UCC tonight looks good. Local derby so should be plenty of bite, and looking at the two starting 15s on twitter they’re not that far off UCC. Maybe they’re missing lads but seems off to me. Mardyke pitch is probably torn up by now aswell

It’s wrong. Clubs dying out for lack of players and some clubs just have too many players for lads to ever get a chance to develop.
I think not playing above your age is a major hindrance in developing a player. You’d learn more playing u16s as a good 14 year old than you ever would at 14s dominating

Carlow never beat Laois in football. Laois have an incredibly weak side traveling to Rathvilly today, appears to be second string with a few trialists in. Carlow will beat Laois today.

Tbf to them the two subs they brought on the last day are both good players. They are very even.
If you look back on their performances this season Church have conceded the following totals: 18,16,18,15,19,17, 13,14. They have only conceded 3 goals during that time including 3 clean sheets in the last 3 games.
Tooreen are not the heaviest scoring team either. When they play Munster/leinster opponents their totals have been always less than 20.
Thought their backline in general were excellent, well organised and could hurl. Full backline touch tight and not afraid to attack the ball.
