GAA Managerial Merrygoround Thread - Where will Rory Gallagher end up? (Part 2)

I’m fairly positive he’s still playing for Naomh Anna but he’d be nearly a decade away from the intercounty setup next year. I genuinely thought he was the real deal when he burst onto the scene.

Yeah Mayo get all the credit for pushing Dublin during that period but Kerry had them rightly rattled at HT in 2013 and 16’. They were level with about 3 minutes of normal time to go in 13’ and no shame in losing by 2 points in 16’. For all the talk about being tactically outwitted in the soaking wet final of 2015, Kerry still only lost by 3. Probably needed another All-Ireland to cement his legacy and stayed on a bit too long with a poor season in 2018 but it wasn’t bad overall. He was dealing with a very transitional pick by Kerry standards. Beat Dublin in the 2017 league final too.

What he achieved with Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne was very impressive, albeit with the mitigating factor of a generational group and most school managers not being at inter-county standard. I think he’s a good appointment for Galway. Outside of Jim Gavin they weren’t going to attain anyone better. And Jim Gavin’s stock has even fallen a slight bit after the presidential fiasco last year. It would have you questioning his coaching intellect a slight bit.

Jim Gavin’s time on the FRC would certainly have you questioning his intellect.

Eamon Fitzmaurice was his underling…

He totally overthought Dublin . It was odd in 2016 moving The gooch inside after halftime when he was getting on so much ball and finding pockets in Dublin defence . Bringing Galvin back in for 2015 was another strange one .

It’s unlikely that Eamon will make any hasty decisions upon his arrival in Galway. His backroom team will indicate to an extent what the future will look like. There’ll be a bit of oul’ enjoyment out of it at least.

The current Galway team seem to lack that steely resolve.

Loads of lovely gifted footballers but lacking in that ruthlessness to win.

The question is whether that can be instilled into them and whether Fitzmaurice is the man to do it.

They tried Joe Kernan and he was a disaster.

It’s a tricky one.

Fitzmaurice sent Aidan O’Mahony out in 2014 final to do Michael Murphy any chance he got. He’s well able for the dark arts.

Jaysus we’ve come full circle if we’re lamenting poor Michael rib shot Murphy or Aidan me hairs ruffled O Mahoney.

Eamon Fitzmaurice informs the nation (RTE1 News) that he’s excited about the prospect of managing Galway next year……

He’s disguising this excitement fairly well the crafty fucker, I thought he was coming from a funeral.
