GAA Managerial Merrygoround Thread

No, it’s for another reason.

Of course. But they control the inter county fixture schedule and will have to come up with a solution.

Croke park setting fixtures would be difficult. It would create an extra layer of bureaucracy/distance to be overcome if there were scheduling conflicts or matches needed to be postponed. Then again many county boards make no concession anyway so maybe it wouldn’t make a difference.

Liam O’Neill is just the man to sort this.

What if there was someone dead?
How would you get a game called off?

Sure some jobbridge student above in Croke Park isn’t going to give a fuck if the full backs father in law’s cousin was after dying and ye didn’t want to play the match.

I would have thought it would eliminate a layer no?

Cork has 9 different boards fixing games. It’s fucking mental.

It’s not actual fixing of games, it’s about structures and giving windows for games.

Changing to CL league type competitions everywhere would facilitate alot of this.

Defining then that all knock out games have extra time and if still a replay it’s played within 4 days and some way of getting a result has to be determined in replay. Unless there is a death directly involving the team members or immediate family then you only move it to accommodate funeral arrangements.

4 times in last 7 years my club has won the first round and then had to wait 3-5 months for a game. That’s not competitive sport.

It would depend on how it’s implemented I suppose. Depending on what type of flexibility they allowed or what systems they had in place to appeal for a change of fixtures it may work better. But knowing the GAA a club would have to go through all 9 boards you mentioned before they could bring a petition to Croke Park to ask to have a fixture moved.

It’s simple. First half of club Championships played off in April/May, second half in August/September.

Condense the Championship by a few weeks so that they start in June and end in August, no need for the three and four week breaks in the middle.

Clubs forbidden to play in June so lads can piss around and go on holidays etc. July then you can play a few league games without the county players if necessary. At least if you knew you were 100% guaranteed not to have a game in say June then you could make some plans. It’s this bollox acting of lads not knowing when they might be playing that pisses fellas off.

The Kildare senior football squad have come out in full support of recently deposed manager Kieran McGeeney and called for the county board to immediately reinstate him.

McGeeney had been manager of the Lilywhites for almost six years but saw his tenure ended on Wednesday night after losing a vote to reappoint him by 29 to 28 among clubs in the county.

Several individual Kildare players reacted with disappointment to the news that McGeeney has been ousted, taking to twitter to support their manager. However, they squad has now issued a statement in which they detail their full support of the McGeeney.

The statement read: “The players feel that our County Board has let us down greatly throughout this process and our manager has been treated with a complete lack of respect and loyalty following his six years at the helm. Kieran’s reputation was frequently impugned at times by comments made over the past few weeks.”

The statement also accused the county board of washing their hands of the decision to axe McGeeney, and claimed that despite wanting to him continue as manager, the County Board Management Committee instead opted to let club deligates decide his future.

“We believe that the County Board Management Committee should have used the powers available to them to reappoint Kieran McGeeney as senior football team manager for 2014 in accordance with their own wishes and those of the players. In not doing so they abdicated their responsibility and must accept much of the blame for the situation that the county now finds itself in,” it read.

The players stopped short of issuing any kind of ultimatum but, made clear their desire to see McGeeney return.

"Our ultimate wish is that last Tuesday night’s decision is overturned and that negotiations are immediately opened with Kieran McGeeney to reinstate him and his management team for 2014.

“Tuesday’s decision and the process followed has left us angered and we will be submitting our recommendations to the County Board in the next two weeks on how this process should be structured in the future.”

how long was McGeeney in charge 6 years was it…if they were so fond of him maybe the players might have went out and won something for him…

A dumb rating doesn’t really do this post justice.

On the ball, Alf. The players have let everyone, including themselves, down here.

+1

maybe these losers should focus their energies on winning games

They won the O Byrne Cup mate.

Absolutely. The shite thats gone on in the GAA over many years about factions and players disrespecting mangers, striking because they didn’t agree with a manager. Players getting buried by GAA supporters and officials (in some cases rightly so) for acting the bollox with management.

Here’s a completely unified panel backing their manager to the hilt. Isn’t that what every county wants? This was a bizarre decision

No it wasn’t.

Why can’t anyone see where the clubs are coming from. Why have the players not said, “look we understand there are fixtures etc, we all need to sit down and get that sorted. We think that can happen with Kieran as our coach.”

You can’t have it all, the GAA isn’t structured that way. It should be better, but it’s not.

Agreed, the players own Clubs voted against them, can’t they see whats wrong here? Are intercounty players that fucking disconnected from the Clubs at this stage? The same Clubs who are on their knees playing levies to pay for stuff like Hawkfield and McGeeneys, staff, which by the way, is THIS long

Kieran McGeeney
Julie Davis
Jason Ryan
Damien Hendy
Morgan O’Callaghan
Hugh Campbell
Danny Mulvihill
David Lyons
Tomas O’Connell
Helen Fitzpatrick
Niamh Connolly
Dwain McGuinness
Mick O’Toole
Robert Carroll
Johnny Bradley
Tom Murphy
Danno Keely

McGeeneys gone because Kildare can’t afford him. It’s that simple.
