Gaa split season, promoting concerts, Leeds United v Manchester United exhibition match, American Football and ladies boxing in Croke Park in August and September and now clashing with Pattern Sunday in St Mullins (Part 1)

You are 100% correct on that last point.

One thing the Football lads have got right is the clampdown on steps - which was not a rule change - but a reinforcement of an existing one.

‘Red lights’ are now flashing when a footballer tries to take the ball into contact and ‘break a tackle’ for fear of being done for overcarrying or being legitimately turned over.

Hurling hasn’t copped on to this yet as steps are not enforced and even if things go awry for the man ‘breaking the tackle’, he still has the ‘throw’ pop pass up his sleeve which he knows is highly unlikely to be penalised either.

So we are left with a Rubby League style game.

Clampdown on steps and throws and Hurling will be fine - but what we’ll end up with is ‘three up rules’ and special zones on puckouts which will make a mess of the whole thing.

The Soccer World Cup Final was as bad a game as you’ll see, yet nobody is calling for rule changes there on the back of it.
