Gaa split season, promoting Meath football since 2025

The Leinster Football Semi Finals wont break 20k between them either apparently.

Yeah, I kinda got that, but its serious badness all the same and shows up the fickleness of the sports fan.

Galway hurling fans are another.

This is the best GAA weekend of the year in terms of actual matches.

Cork v Tipp
Waterford v Clare
Offaly v Galway
Dublin v Wexford
Antrim v Kilkenny
Tyrone v Armagh
Donegal v Down
Dublin v Meath
Kildare v Louth

But Liverpool will dominate everything. That’s just the way of it.

The All Ireland Finals going to be pushed back to August for next onwards by all accounts. a great victory for the anti split season brigade - clubs being squeezed out of it :-1:

August be fine. I presume its early August. We can all do with a little give and take. This will surely appease the split season zealots and we can all move on with our settled calendar.

I can’t go beyond the first 2 weeks of August as it would absolute kill the club championships.

“By all accounts”.

There was a fella here who said exactly the same thing a couple of years back.

Experience tells me the people who use the phrase “by all accounts” in this sort of context tend to be members of some “Concerned Parents of Area X” Facebook group that’s a front for white supremacists.

Why? Because of 4 counties being in all Ireland finals?!

You’d hope they wont. But I think a bleed into August will be no bad thing. We’re all still much better off than we were and the All Irelands will benefit also from the bit of breathing space.

I don’t see any reason why the A/I semis and final in both codes can’t take place in August.

Realistically all but six hurling counties will be finished for the year before middle of July and 75% of the football counties the same. Leaves loads of time for club duty.

A/I football finalists would be back with their clubs the last week August.

how about those 4 counties club championships? An extra two weeks for the intercounty means 2 less weeks for counties to get their club championships played in time for the provincial club.

Consecutive logical leaps there.

Last week in August is very late for clubs to get their county players back?

Just looking at the 2024 County Senior Club championships - there was 2 rounds of championship played in Cork by the end of August, 3 rounds in Tipp, 3 in Limerick, 2 in Galway and 2 in Clare - how are the county boards going to fit in the club championships in a shorter window? Unless the provincial and all ireland club championships are pushed into February.

Even if they’re knocked out a bit earlier wouldn’t most clubs let them off for a couple of weeks holiday anyhow. Our lads might get a session or two in at best most years

Football would be last week of August and only two counties affected. Hurling final would be a week or two beforehand

There was 5 weeks between the Tipp County Final and Loughmore playing in the Munster Club.

Sarsfields had 4 weeks before they played Feakle.

There is absolutely no need for the All Ireland Club Hurling Semi Finals to be shoehorned in on Christmas week so the Provincials can be pushed one another week or two to buy back another couple of weeks earlier on.

I’d be happy enough for the All Ireland Club series to be done away with in truth.

A plaything for a handful of elite clubs.

Precisely. I’d be interested in them running it as a blitz over one weekend if they so wished.
