The D4 media sneer at the Healy Rea’s but there is a reason they keep getting elected.

The work their arses off for their constituents and deliver for them. Kept hospital services, roads and bypasses built, get the medical cards sorted for people.

I only wish I had someone like them in our constituency. They’d have got the Cork to Limerick motorway and Adare bypass built years ago.

That is not their job.

Everything they “get” for the constituency comes at a price of something that might not happen elsewhere. That kind of self interest bullshit politics is the reason we have a glorified Banana Republic.

1800 looks a big gap between Alan Shatter and Catherine Martin but I think this one is far from done and dusted and will be very close. Martin should pull ahead of Butler and White and where their transfers go will decide it. Think Martin can do it but too close to call with any certainty.

The Healy Rea’s don’t have a notion about Brussels or bond holders. Sort out Johnny down the road with his college grant application and you have his (and his families) vote for life.

The likes of the Collins dynasty and Dan Neville have served term after term but achieved practically nothing for the constituency.
