Key moments in both constituencies now. Humphreys has edged 43 ahead of Jim with just Chris Andrews (4,888) to be distributed. Jim is for the leafier end of the constituency and ordinarily you wouldn’t see him getting a great bounce from SF, but Andrews is ex FF so there could be transfers there yet for Jim.
I’m fading. Malcolm has conceded. Hope there’s another election soon for him.
It is not to be.
While we have polled extremely well and we are not out of the picture, it is unlikely as we move to the final counts that I will take a seat on this occasion.
I am disappointed but also extraordinarily grateful for the experience where I could engage with people all over this wonderful county and seek to understand the issues and put forward potential solutions.
I am proud that we ran a clean, positive campaign and I cannot adequately express my gratitude to all those who helped in any way. To have so many wonderful people believe in our campaign is deeply moving. To all of you, to my family and friends, I love you very much.
Thanks to those who voted for me and to those who did not, I hope that someday I could earn your trust. I congratulate those elected and commend everyone who had the courage to put their name on a ballot paper.
Elections are a humbling experience. These last few months, I have learned a lot about myself and the truth in that old phrase, ‘what doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger.’
Brendan Howlin first elected in Wexford. Paul Kehoe has pushed 172 clear of Johnny Mythen after Aoife Byrne’s transfers. Ger Carthy’s votes to be transferred now.
Wallace is still 1,300 off the quota, so he’ll take a good chunk of those 4,041 Carthy votes. Malcolm’s transfers will presumably give James Browne a large surplus and pull up D’arcy a bit as well. Browne is Enniscorthy based as are Kehoe and Mythen so there probably won’t be a huge benefit either way off a Browne surplus. Ultimately, Mythen should nudge ahead of Kehoe off Carthy transfers and that should be enough.
