Perhaps from his medschool or junior doctor days? Again, I dislike him, but I don’t see how he can get to his current position being lazy. And I don’t mean doing briefs, I mean actually reading them and engaging with or questioning the material. You’d be surprised how rare step one of actually reading your briefing is for a minister, let alone step two. It caused consternation in the taoiseach’s department when he took over from Kenny.
id say coveney and bruton are the only ones who’d a) read them and b) understand them
Sorry mate, must be someone else. My GGF did fight in the Great War though, succumb to his injuries/experience in 1919
Murphy toed the party line in 2016, splitting the constituency in an effort to get Kate in (and Lucinda out). It’ll be interesting to see if he’s as magnanimous this time. I think unless the tide goes completely out, 2 FG td’s is still possible there
How anyone could vote for Murphy is beyond me.
That’s not that surprising - you struggle with viewpoints that don’t absolutely correlate with your own.
He surely has to be the worst minister in a long long time (ok aside from Ross). He took ridiculously long to take any action to address housing issues, most of what he’s done has been ineffective, and he has never even been able to produce accurate figures, in fact his department kept trotting out figures that were demonstrably false. This is not a guy you and I can debate the merits of from different viewpoints, he is utterly indefensible.
Looking at the 2016 election in Dublin Bay South, FG got 30% of the votes. This was despite Lucinda also running (a further 11%).
The closest two who missed out were Labour and SF on about 10/11% each.
You’d imagine that Eamon Ryan and Jim O’Callaghan are safe but they don’t have running mates. The question will be will FG vote drop significantly and where will Lucinda’s vote go. I think in a constituency like this FG vote will trend significantly higher than national average so 30% + is likely.
On that basis, it more likely than not that FG will get the last seat. Far from definite though and the balance of the votes will be important between Murphy and Kate
That’s some collection of cunts in one constituency
Wait till you meet the voters …
Grand so, a new housing minister will have the whole thing sorted in a jiffy.
Houses for all - 2 for some people.
Vote often, vote early.
That’s silly. Why did he resist any limits on air BnB or rent increases for so long? Why he did he maintain the numbers of ESB connections was the same as the number of houses being built for so long? He has to be demonstrably the slowest and most useless minister in charge of a brief ever.
I’d have far more sympathy for Harris as health minister.
We know there’s no quick fix to either housing or health — but there’s a smugness to the two current ministers that really doesnt help. They’ve never once got out in front of issues and instead give us some half arsed excuses … The recent , and annual, spike in patients being prime example — a dog with a mallet up his hole would have been out in front of that one. We’re still not building half enough houses - surely to fuck in 5 years he could have come up with some initiative to stimulate more building - or tackled rents in a meaningful way…
I dont think people are looking for magic wands, just give us something .
FG are the party of ‘im doing alright so fuck everyone else’
They absolutely loathe one another and the enmity has only increased since 2016. It won’t be a case of a dagger in the back, more who can bury more knives in the other within a 3 week campaign. If they both get back it’ll be a fluke rather than an a success of co-operation.
Yeah - I’d agree with that.

murphy has few knives, whereas kate is bringing as gun

On the ESB connections, wasn’t that the only way they had to know until recently with CSO - suggesting every minister previously used the same data. Are you saying the department had a different better way and they didn’t use it.
In relation to Air BnB and rent freezes - I suspect because it was far from clear whether they’d work or are just stunts. I’d say the jury is still out on both. Both have been implemented - are you happy with the results?
