He was elected for FF in 2007, he left the party in 2011 and ran as an IND in every election since.

No, he won’t do well out of the young vote. FG get just over 10% of 18 - 25 year olds. That’s way below their average. It absolutely suits FF and FG to appeal to older voters and that’s always been the case.
