They seemed to put very little effort into advertising the Irish open? You’d hardly know it’s on. Decent little field too tbf.
It’s sold out today and had good crowds the first few days
What sort of crowd would that be? It’s good to hear but not a whole pile about it.
They have the illustrious commentary duo of Hugh Cahill and John McHenry covering it on RTE
Yeah, I saw a good piece in the paper saying the tournament’s all wrong , bad time of year and the wrong type of course. It should really be on a links track and slotted in between the Scottish Open and the Open, makeing a proper little “links swing” out of it.
I heard Hugh has had a difficult in recent times. He wouldn’t be my cup of tea but it’s good to hear he’s back.
Very hard to get the players I’d say over for nearly three weeks though? Lahinch was good though wasn’t it.
This might not be a great week but it guarantees them Lowry and McIlroy. I’d say you’d be hopeful if it’s directly after the Ryder cup announcement every two years the bulk of the Ryder cup team will play.
That’s exactly it, the fella writing the arricle reckoned you’d never drag the Yanks over for three weeks on the bounce anyway, so maybe it’s a non starter. Still, I’d be happy enough if it pulled in the top Europeans. Problem is, between the prize money and trying to keep everyone sweet, it’s a tough one to balance.
You can get Liv lads this time of the year as well too
Losing the Rolex Series designation was a big knock in terms of getting the top players over for it but it’s hard to know if they could squeeze in close to the Scottish Open to get them back
Depends where you are looking I suppose. Been well publicised
It definitely should be on a links anyway
Doonbeg next year is the word locally
Would that be able for a crowd?
They might have to limit it. There’s plenty room around it but not sure about how big crowds between holes would work there.
Go Rors…
Cute move from team Ireland, should consider rerouting the Ryder Cup there too. Keep the main man placated
