“Takes a lot of courage to lay it up” says Beemer ![]()
They moved it to May there for about 10 or 12 years. Wasn’t the same at all. Much better in March.
The US PGA has moved to May now and it’s a load of shite in that time window.
The Player’s Championship v the USPGA is a bit like the dynamic between Ye Olde Milky Rumbelows Cup and Ye Olde FA Cup.
The Littlewoods Cup might be less presteejus but it’s generally a better tournament to watch as it isn’t up it’s own hole on fake self importance like the FA Cup. There isn’t pretence.
The Player’s Championship is a better tournament to watch than the US PGA as it has it’s own niche and venue, without the pretence. Even if it calls itself the fifth major, which is obvious pretence. But that’s still less pretence than the US PGA.
Marking it from ten inches is a bit of a cod
He gets his moment
Cam Young believes Europe is being destroyed by mass migration and that the EU needs to be abolished.
He should be more worried about Europe destroying the USA in Ryder Cup in the USA.
Packed leaderboard at the Valspar. Tough course, this is one where you’d be happy to get in and post a score and let the carnage unfold behind you.
Matt Fitz gets to -10, and stripes one down 16. Lipsky joins him with a birdie on 14
Big putt by Fitz on 18 for the outright lead. Lipsky has a look from 30 feet but comes up a roll short
36 holes bogey free is tournament winning golf. He went over to the winners family at the greenside last week to congratulate them which I thought was very sporting considering a) he’s a golfer and b) English.
Great win after the heartbreak last week. Gutsy fucker is Matt
He generally comes across as an alright sort, much less self-obsessed than the average tour pro
Sky have ran an hour long programme focussing on the final day of the 1996 Masters where Faldo trounced the not so great White Shark.
Whatever about Van de Veldt’s combustion Norman must surely win the Togfiller of All-Time award. A lot of his shots had very unlucky outcomes but he completely fell asunder.
Faldo was commentating on how he did this and that quoting grit and resilience and technical guff that golfers would understand but I reached the conclusion that he’s a thundering cunt.
Wouldn’t disagree with that.
Still less of a cunt than Greg.
Van de Velde’s response to making a giant tit of himself was to embrace it and film this brilliant piss take of himself.
JJ looking like he’ll be in the winners enclosure again here. He’s pretty much stone-cold when he gets the sniff of a win.
Bob goes off the reservation when he needs a birdie on the last. He’ll get some form of relief all the same
Faldo ‘96 is on Sky Golf now.
If he was a chocolate bar he’d eat himself. Norman was only 41 ![]()
Norman got progressively worse as the tournament went on, from 63 on Thursday to 78 on Sunday. There’re multiple theories for his collapse, he had switched to a new grip going into the week and maybe lost confidence in it, there was also some personal issue going on that he never disclosed.
It’s a lazy analysis to say he simply choked as usual, the other majors he lost you had lads chipping in from 50 yards off the green or holing bunker shots. He should have won more majors, but he was number 1 for six years and won 88 tournaments.
His 41 on the back nine matched his age.
Anyone notice that links golf has gone off the charts expensive? Previously affordable course like Dingle, Portsalon and Strandhill are charging telephone numbers for golf. Its supposed to be due to the Yanks coming over en masse and playing the previously lesser known links.
Its scuppered any plans that I had of playing them for the forseeable future.
