Good Books

What’s extraordinary about it ? I found the film quite self indulgent

Chick lit is about the height of it on here. I wouldn’t get too het up about what most of the posters find to be good. A book without paragraphs blew a few fellas away.

It’s just brilliantly written I suppose, the murderers in particular are fascinating characters
I haven’t seen a movie, I didn’t realize there was one

This is a remarkable book. I thought it was going to be Dylan talking about the art of songwriting but its more him riffing and yarning over about 60 of his favourite songs. Very entertaining stuff His description of a Grateful Dead Concert is outstanding. Willie Nelson’s Pancho & Lefty and Marty Robbins El Paso are two other highlights for me. Perry Como is somebody i never listened to before Dylan’s described him so beautifully that i had to seek him out.

I’m listening to it on Spotify and everyone from Steve Buscemi to Helen Mirren to Sissy Spacek contribute by reading a chapter. Having said that i think it might work better as a coffee table or beside the jacks book as it’s one u could dip into randomly.

Just finished this. Good thriller. I’d say good insight into post Gorbachev Russia.

I recently read this, an enjoyable romp based around the siege of Stalingrad

Just finished the new “Le Carre” book Karla’s Chooce written by his son. It’s set in between A Spy that came in from the Cold and Tinker Tailor.

It could have been cringe but I thought it was great. If you didn’t know you’d swear it was written by the main man himself.

His new one Precipice is enjoyable

I’m after finishing this book in the last few days (having read her first book on the topic a number of months ago). Felt the first book was superior but On Shifting Ground is a decent read all the same.

I like to think I’m well versed on the troubles and the north etc but I’m disappointed with myself that I never heard of Barry Halliday before, a pastor who was interviewed in the book. Probably one of the most bitter loyalists out there - I went digging online into some of his past interviews - some very questionable statements have been made by Barry, calling the Catholics a lesser breed just one example - hopefully his likes are thin on the ground in this day and age in the North.

Have Eamonn McGee’s biography lined up as my next read.
