I think it’s very similar but I agree not nearly as good.
I think sufficient time has passed for me to read Shuggie again, what a book, I’m jealous of those who haven’t read it yet
Just completed The Kidnapping by Tommy Conlon & Ronan McGreevy - about the IRA’s kidnapping of Don Tidey - an excellent read.
An extremely sad story - you’d feel very sorry for Patrick Kelly and Gary Sheehan’s families. I see myself as a bit of an armchair republican but the IRA got this one completely wrong. As the saying goes - there are no winners in war.
Really interesting book this about borders in Europe including our own. Especially about how borders have shifted and how that impacts on the communities left behind. Poland shifted about 100km from east to west after the war.
Headbanger alert. The author is in favour of open borders.
They did and a load of Poles from Lvov moved to Wroclaw.
Do you often re-read chick lit?
Although focussed on the USA this is an interesting book for anyone who lived through the 90s. Not overly taxing but follows the trends of social and technological changes in the 90s and their consequences for the US of today.
Headbanger alert. The author would appear to be from the centre of the political spectrum.
This was very good. A serious debut novel. Set in mid 90s Donegal. We truly were a different country then.
I’ve read the first 3 of these. Short books all excellent. All based loosely on the effects of sexual abuse. Not nearly as grim as it sounds.
Water is pretty grim.
This whole thread is grim tbf.
A load of chic lit and scuttery Irish novels being bandied about as life changing works of art.
I listened to it. Sinead Cusack narrated. Maybe she helped but i didn’t find it too grim
