Good Books

I think it’s very similar but I agree not nearly as good.

I think sufficient time has passed for me to read Shuggie again, what a book, I’m jealous of those who haven’t read it yet

Just completed The Kidnapping by Tommy Conlon & Ronan McGreevy - about the IRA’s kidnapping of Don Tidey - an excellent read.
An extremely sad story - you’d feel very sorry for Patrick Kelly and Gary Sheehan’s families. I see myself as a bit of an armchair republican but the IRA got this one completely wrong. As the saying goes - there are no winners in war.

Really interesting book this about borders in Europe including our own. Especially about how borders have shifted and how that impacts on the communities left behind. Poland shifted about 100km from east to west after the war.
Headbanger alert. The author is in favour of open borders.

They did and a load of Poles from Lvov moved to Wroclaw.

Do you often re-read chick lit?

Although focussed on the USA this is an interesting book for anyone who lived through the 90s. Not overly taxing but follows the trends of social and technological changes in the 90s and their consequences for the US of today.

Headbanger alert. The author would appear to be from the centre of the political spectrum.

This was very good. A serious debut novel. Set in mid 90s Donegal. We truly were a different country then.

I’ve read the first 3 of these. Short books all excellent. All based loosely on the effects of sexual abuse. Not nearly as grim as it sounds.

Water is pretty grim.

This whole thread is grim tbf.

A load of chic lit and scuttery Irish novels being bandied about as life changing works of art.

I listened to it. Sinead Cusack narrated. Maybe she helped but i didn’t find it too grim

Nearly finished listening to The Padre, the story of Tipperary priest Fr Paddy Ryan and his work with the IRA. The interviews weren’t recorded until recently enough and he’s in his 90s. Seema like another Tipperary IRA man who doesn’t hid his light under a bushel, but an interesting listen all the same.

A great read - you’re right - he doesnt lack confidence! Very interesting reading about his activity across mainland Europe.
If you enjoyed that book then I would recommend Killing Thatcher - another great read.

Just after finishing Seven Deadly Sins - David Walshs book about Lance Armstrong - an excellent read, Lance a horrible individual.

Starting into reading about another horrible individual now - Johnny Adair. Nice people rarely make for good reading I suppose!!

Gave Chatgpt the first page of the Star of the Sea book and asked it to draw the character.

Ti’s

I asked them seperately based on what they know about the novel (I suspect they’ve access to it through deepseek) to draw him

It’s more or less how I pictured the Connemara cunt.

Yeah, it’s not too far off the mark alright. I had more of an @Mac hook nose on him but otherwise it’s close
