You preferred the earlier chapters?
Just a note on this.
I would highly recommend this book.
The story of three Afghans born at different times in the country’s mental history all of whom lead very different paths.
They are meant to be real people but I am sure there was some artistic licence given.
Slowly rereading Star Of The Sea. Read originally back in 2003 as I travelled around Asia. It’s excellent. The chapter where he travels the roads of northern England with the schoolmaster (William Swales) is great writing.
You’d have doubled your money…good return alright
I see ray dalio echoing similar sentiments to this.
Looks like you see could see the investment go up as the next collapse unfolds.
Just finished Dubliners by James Joyce there. It was a lovely read. I’d say I read it 30-40 years ago but I didn’t have the life experience to understand it or the time to research various references.
I just read a book about raising a hare. It was called raising hare. Given we have a few about the place including one lad that looks like that hat in Donnie darko who we (I) call darkie, I found it interesting if somewhat preachy and bland. Like a few lads on here. The women will love it though. The author was a SPAD under the Tories in the middle east.
Hard to square her love of hares with the butchery on her watch, though that’s probably unfair.
Just started a book by the late great Charlie Kirk -
Right Wing Revolution: How to Beat the Woke and Save the West.
I listened to it. Phenomenal book youl be thinking about it for a long time after
Like shuggie bain without the veil.
When did you start reading chic lit?
I read herself’s detritus.
I haven’t the mental space for serious books. I spend that at work.
I’m just finishing Our London Lives by Christine Dwyer Hickey. The story of 2 irish immigrants in London set over 40 years between 1980 and 2020. It’s really good. A sort of love letter to London wrapped in a really good story. Irish immigrants in England like @flattythehurdler will enjoy it particularly i would say. I can see a film in this with Brendan Gleeson playing the older Philip character.
Its the second book I’ve read by Hickey this year. The first was the Narrow Land which rightfully won a load of awards. A fictionalised story of artist Edward Hopper’s later life in Long Island.
I straddle the Irish sea like a colossus mate.
Unfortunately, whilst I thought the story may be exaggerated, herself, who has experience of such things tells me it probably is entirely true, and that the sexual assaults started as a baby.
Lads have taken … ’ getting in touch with their feminine side’ to extremes on here
Reading this (listening on audible ) and it’s exceptional.
