Having a slow one here.
I watched Americana a good while ago when it came out.
I didn’t remember the girl with the black hair.
I’m getting to the age now that when I hear the phrase ‘black bird’ I think of the feathered type.
I thought you were talking about a different movie or the TV series Black Bird.
I didn’t keep Americana in my library which means I didn’t rate it that highly.
But as a one off showing it was good alright.

Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice is a tremendous bit of a caper with a lot of timeywimey bits thrown in. Vaughan is brilliant but the real fun is in all the smaller roles. Well worth it
We just watched Atonement there, what a great film.
James McAvoy and Keira Knightley are great and if course it’s Saoirse Ronan’s first role. But Vanessa Redgrave unsurprisingly steals the film at the end.
I have previously nominated my five best films of this century. But Atonement and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy would be definite also rans.
Atonement is a brilliant film, I’ll have to read the book. I’ve never read any od McEwan’s stuff.

It does be on the TV fairly regularly late at night on this side of the world. I’d catch bits and pieces of it. Strong undercurrents but enjoyable all the same.
Must do the full watch again sometime.
I watched this the other day. Crowe is excellent alright. What did you think was off about the ethics of the psychiatrist and lawyers? I thought the film got a bit confused as to what it was about. It was presented mainly through the psychiatrist and his interactions with the nazis but it lost track of the key point that came out of that whole bit which was his conclusions as to their ordinariness and latterly the ignoring of his warnings that normal people could do these things again and there was nothing exceptional about the nazis. I think it also underplayed the legal and historical significance. It seemed like the film gave the most weight as build up as to whether the American lawyer could “get” the Nazi in interrogation, which was a fair dumbing down of the whole thing.

McEwan is a superb writer though some of his books can be quite dull.
Atonement is an incredible book, Saturday and Amsterdam are brilliant
But On Chesil Beach is perfect, it’s only about 100 pages and it drags in parts but when you put it down you’ll know you’ve been in the hands of a genius, the last few pages will stay with me forever
A girl i was dating once took me along to an ian mcewan reading, i was happy enough because she was deadly and I’d enjoyed a couple of his novels. I actually asked him a couple of questions about some character or other, trying to impress herself…a few days later i realised that I’d confused him with iain banks

I’m actually reading the new book by Douglas Stuart and in the book the main character is reading ‘The Wasp Factory’
I haven’t thought about Iain Banks in a very long time but that’s a great book, as is ‘The Crow Road’

He wrote a few excellent books. Complicity was a great read
Tried his science fiction stuff but could never get into it
Watched it last night.
Very good.
I like all the actors in it.
I had to rewind the ending alright as it puzzled me a bit.
I’d have kept them for myself

Batshit crazy - a mark of a good fillim is that you are still thinking about it days later
I’m not the better of it. I just keep thinking why. But then I can’t say it was bad either. I just don’t know how you’d come up with a bit of it.
