It’s aged badly. Thought the action sequences were poor too
45 years old in fairness, Carpenter is one of the all time great directors the man is a legend. Nearly 80 now and spends his time playing the X box. Was knocking Adrienne Barbeau in her prime too.
My only gripe with Odyssey is why they felt the need to cast Samuel L Jackson as Helen of Troy…
I get in the age of woke that it’s important to cast females as males and people of colour in roles that should be white. But Helen of Troy is supposed to be the most beautiful woman known to all mankind that caused the war etc. etc. Casting Samuel L was an odd one but it’s only acting i suppose.
She also played her half sister Clytemnestra.
Just watched the chevy chase documentary. It’s very good. Pulls no punches and amazing interviews with a heap of people close to him and who worked closely with him. He’s a horrendous cunt a lot of the time.
Slow to get going and pure Hollywood ending but the middle section of Oddyssey (from Cyclops on) is truly outstanding cinema
8/10
Quick question
If one had never seen a superhero movie besides the original Batman, all superman movies and the first spider man, what would be a good one to watch with a 12 year old?
Do you need to watch those in order?
What’s the best, I’ve heard the dark night is very good but will it stand alone
Id give it the same. Lot of plot holes but worth the watch and glad i saw it in cinema
Thor Rangnorok a rollicking good movie
Maybe next time
We’ve gone for Jurassic park.
Excellent so far anyway
Self-disqualification. You said superhero movie
What did you think of Samuel L Jackson as Helen of Troy?
The correct answer is the Spider Verse movies
Sorry mate, I do know that but nobody replied here and I wasn’t at all knowledgeable
Ironman 1 perhaps or GOTG.
EDIT - Ah bollocks, its AI
Glen is no longer with us so we wil have to throw that question open to the community
Went to the Odyssey there tonight in the IFI. Solid 4/5 there for cinematic spectacle. On the other hand not one of the characters is anyway sympathetic and I couldn’t give a solid fuck what became of any of them. Still the almost three hours whizzed by and the soundtrack is a killer by Ludwig Goransen (who also did Sinners). It was a very Hans Zimmerish soundtrack.
I saw it on the 70mm screen in the IFI and the sound there was amazing.
