Good website- 1911 census

read up on your family history

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

It is a very good site alright, gives a good insight into what Dublin living was like a century ago. Disapointing that it doesn’t cover outside Dublin.

who wants to know anything about pig farmers living in their own filth

I would like to know about the other cities in Ireland when they were under British rule.

It will. if you search around you can find the list of counties to be done next and in what order.

Here it is

Kerry second, i guess cos we were a hotbed of British ‘bastionness’

Good stuff WhyOhWhy, when I was on the site last week I couldn’t find anything outside Dublin.

there arent many cities in ireland now never mind back then BS, Belfast & maybe Cork back then , good site though

Another prominent swimmer was the distinguished doctor, writer and wit, Oliver St. John Gogarty. Gogarty also played soccer with Bohemians FC and competed regularly in the Irish cycling championships.

They are more British than the huns with their origins

Funny to see that they were the original owners of archbishop park

This is amazing if you’re lucky enough to come from somewhere that has been transcribed, great to spend some time going through school kids writings from the 30s
Edit. Not just limerick, much of the country has been covered, your granda could be here.

That’s amazing. Where did you hear about it?

That is astonishing. When you hear of all the useless fucking projects taken on in this country, its nice to see a worthwhile one done every now and then.

My brother is a local history nut, he sent me the link about a year ago.
its very informative as well, close to where my wife is from in county Limerick there’s a 3 cross road with a tragic sounding name, you know the way every bend in the road has a name in the country, well nobody could tell us where the name came from but one of the kids had the whole story in one of those essays.

You’d have to be impressed with the quality of the hand writing across the country. My father isn’t in it, but friends of his are. Lovely pieces from Liam Hayes’s father who kicked football with my father.

Very cool, some great stuff there about local history etc.

You get cracking on transcribing the Askeaton ones there
