I used to watch that film on repeat for most of the early 90s.

This still puts the shits up me.

If you were there, you’ll know.

If you weren’t you won’t.

I saw Ashcroft again at the Point Depot a month ago on Martin O’Neill Day.

It was grand, but it wasn’t a patch on this. The fucking energy.

@KinvarasPassion

It’s happening again.

Context is key here but this is pretty amazing given the difficulty of the song, their ages and the fact they hated each other for most of the last 30 years, the old girl just about steers it home at the end there as well. Siobhan is/was also absoluetely savage.

In my opinion Funhouse by The Stooges is ons of the greatest albums ever made. A punk album before punk. The energy is off the charts and Iggy was obviously a huge part of that.

The previous album isn’t far off in terms of brilluance.

Then Iggy went off the rails. Bowie met him, brought him back and introduced James Williamson as lead guitarist. Iggy and the Stooges was formed initially without the other three original members. Ron Asheton, whose lead guitar was fundamental to their first two albums was relegated to bass.

A terrible tragedy I always felt. Raw Power was lauded critically but it’s hard to get behind it given the history. Hard to know who to blame but I think Bowie’s influence wasn’t ideal.

When Iggy was in the loony bin, Bowie and Lou Reed smuggled in smack to “keep him going” and he still is. The 2 lads, not so much
