Greatest Number One Singles

These lassies were something else to a 14/15 year old lad.

Good song too.

Letā€™s Dance would hardly get into the top 100 Bowie songs

five from the 80ā€™s

Everything about that song gives me a horn

Donā€™t You Want Me Baby and Tainted Love are two songs I canā€™t stand.

Back To Life by Soul II Soul is in the mix at the top end. The stand out number one of 1989.

This is a proper under rated number one by Lisa Stansfield from the same year.

11/11/1989 ALL AROUND THE WORLD LISA STANSFIELD 2

This was an incredible banger

Slade were probably even more integral to Oasis than any other band. The ultimate ladsā€™ band.

Incidentally the first three seconds here are a savagely accurate illustration of how I see the sides of doors.

09/09/1972 MAMA WEER ALL CRAZEE NOW SLADE 3

A cover but an absolute banger.

How many Irish acts/songs got to the UK number 1 slot?
The Irish chart used mirror it closely enough but we always had the noveltyish likes of do the bartman, Dustin and ooh ah Paul mcgrath too if you were looking to tape them off the radio.

Do the charts still exist and if so whatā€™s the official one?

Do The Bartman topped the UK charts as well.

Off the top of my head:
U2
SinƩad
Enya
Chris De Burgh
Fergal Sharkey
Gilbert Oā€™Sullivan
The Rats
Johnny Logan
B*Witched
Boyzone
Westlife

How about now. An absolutely atrocious list of scutter. Iā€™d say thereā€™s about five decent ones.

By a long way as good as it got for us.

1988 DESIRE U2
1988 ORINOCO FLOW ENYA
1990 NOTHING COMPARES 2 U SINEAD Oā€™CONNOR
1991 THE FLY U2

One for the Iā€™d Say in Her Day thread.

16/06/1973 CAN THE CAN SUZI QUATRO 1

Outstanding live performance of an outstanding number one.

We were a proper country then.

29/09/1990 SHOW ME HEAVEN MARIA MCKEE 4
