A great speech and his finest, notwithstanding the muddled analogy there about Britain being taken over. There were plenty of other reasons to stay out of the war.

Just a shame Dev was such a stickler and went out and got negative headlines post Hitler’s death.

I saw a documentary on the relationship at the time of World War 2 between the two recently.

For all Dev’s faults, and there were many, he behaved admirably at that critical time and stuck it to that bigoted cunt.

AFAIK Colum McCann of Let The Great World Spin fame wrote a book about him because he did a tour of Ireland once. I think he was anti-Irish independence because he was allied to the British, or something a bit like that, I can’t remember exactly. But that’s a good speech.
