The Lighthouse Cinema has recently reopened.
Indeed - took a trip there on Saturday. Was some waste having it shut.
Sky creating 800 jobs in Dublin through the opening of a new call / contact centre
http://www.idairelan…-sky-/index.xml
However, I’m interested to find out what this will mean for a Cork outsourcing company who have previously being doing all of Skys customer support in Ireland. They had 200 odd people dedicated to Sky support alone. I don’t expect to see that mentioned in any media outlet.

200 odd people will be moving to Dublin I imagine
I don’t know how anyone could stick working in a call centre
Agree with that, but it would be better than queuing up with your paw out every week in the social welfare office or post office.
This is the crowd in Cork - http://www.abtran.com/. They still have Sky listed as a client but the new office won’t open till August. Either way, it won’t be a net gain of 800 jobs I’d say.
I see a poster on here advertising work for recent graduates
Dundalk has been picked ahead of Limerick for 1,000 new jobs from Paypal.
H’on El Paso
Bad news for mid-west. Even Clare inbreds might have got a job in Limerick.
the mid west??
why is it that these mongs in Limerick are so unsure of themselves they have to declare themself a region- no other area in Ireland needs to do it but the mid west do
Fuck you fucking tard.
You ran all the way from the midwest to Dublin when you got beat out of the Steering Wheel.
LFC/L37/LU/LCFC forever
What types of job have Paypal created? No harm in having them based in Ireland despite some criticisims of their corporate ethos that were flying around before.
On a serious note Ireland (and the government) could do a lot worse than trying to increase our web selling presence. I know “e-commerce” was a buzz word and a bit of a false hype was generated around it but when you see the importance a company like Amazon has for the UK economy then we really need to get some of that activity. Old school retail sales will continue to lose percentage shares of the market and in order to get some growth back into the economy we need to move into areas where sales are increasing. You also get the added advantage of being insulated more from a domestic recession if our markets extend wider. Get in a world class logistics hub operating out of Ireland and there’s no reason we couldn’t get big online retailers coming here.
Agreed, Shannon would be ideal for this
Call Centre jobs apparently.
The operation will be engaged in account management, risk management and provide customer support for PayPal’s operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
They already have 1500 people working in Blanchardstown so I wonder how many of the jobs are “new” vs. being transferred from there.
Talks of something similar for Shannon has been muted in the past, but don’t know if there is any plan in place to develop it further.
Not many by all accounts. They were supposed to be going into Quinns old place in Navan, would have been nice to get rid of that for NAMA. Anyone know are they going to place where xerox were in Dundalk?
