Green Shoots - How Michael Noonan ended the recession

Replace all your bulbs with A rated LED bulbs. I was close to getting a bump and the bulbs got me over the line.

Smart thermostat a big help too.

My house is old though so I wasn’t at the upper end of the scale. Margins might be greater at B and better.

The other big issue facing Ireland and Western countries is the looming pension bill. Lots of people will be working far beyond 65 to help pay for public sector people to retire at 65 on generous pensions……

I remember paying £15 a bulb for LED bulbs when we moved in to the house 13 years ago, and they were a horrible blue white glare like a car showroom at night. They are great now.

Get the really old appliances out and put in A-rated.

Zone your home heating (getting a plumber is the hard bit here).

Use low-watt slow-burn elec hearing such as farho and rointe for the rooms in regular use.

A proper home solar set-up is about 14k gross. There are a number of cowboys in the market so get a recommendation.

Change the bulbs. Led lamps are much cheaper these days, although dimmable does cost more

Set your stats to use Celsius instead of Fahrenheit, then you wont have to turn them up so high.
