[ # ] Lidl recalls Hurling Helmets
May 8th, 2008
Lidl have been forced to recall the hurling helmets they were selling after concerns were raised that they dont meet the official safety standards. They launched their range of hurling gear back in February and it was endorsed by Corks Brian Corcoran. Their helmet was selling for 49.99, significantly cheaper than the Mycro and Cooper brands which currently dominate the market. Apparently the helmet meets some safety standards but not the standard the GAA uses, so theyre recalling them all and offering a refund.
Helmets are pretty expensive but then again they have a crucial safety role and indeed are due to become compulsory for all players at all grades in the coming
Proof that anything endorsed by Cork hurlers ain’t worth a fuck

Man charged with phone threat to hurling manager
A MAN has been charged with making a threatening phone call to former Cork hurling manager and multiple All-Ireland medal winner Gerald McCarthy.
Trevor O’Reilly (30) was formally charged yesterday before Cork District Court with the alleged offence, at the height of the stand-off between Mr McCarthy and Cork’s 2008 hurling panel, who had refused to play under his management.
Mr O’Reilly, of Anderson’s Quay, Cork, appeared yesterday before Judge Con O’Leary. He made no reply when formally charged.
He faces a charge that on March 5 at Anderson’s Quay, Cork, he issued a message by telephone to Gerald McCarthy, which was menacing in character contrary to the Post and Telecommunication Services Act.
Mr O’Reilly was remanded on bail to appear again before Cork District Court on September 9.
where will the lads who said it was only a bullshit story stand now?
Will be interesting to see if this fella has any sort of links with the Cork Hurlers.
I heard he’s married to one of them.
