People of similar origin tried to rob me there as well.
I believe there was a gun fight in Kilmallock last week aswell.
I imagine that Runt deserved it though, just like that time someone fired a can or bottle at him during a Shamrock Rovers match.
I think I posted about it on here before. It ended with me firing a rather delicious kebab in my attackers face. I miss that kebab.
Here’s the post:
This is how it went down:
Scene: Outside a Kebab shop located on a dimly lit street off a square in Brussels
Cast: The Runt, A Kebab, Turk 1, Turk 2, Turk 3
The Runt: Nom Nom Nom, hmmmmm what a lovely kebab
Turk 1: hey my friend
The Runt: Well lads
Turk 1: Hey good night, you like the football?
The Runt: Yes very good night
Turk 2: You know Ronaldo?
The Runt: The fat Ronaldo or the other Ronaldo?
Turk 2: ha, ha, fat ronaldo. You see the trick he does?
(At this stage my runty senses were tingling)
Turk 2 puts his leg behind mine and tries to trip me over it while Turk 3 makes a go for my pocket. I managed to keep my balance and got my hand to my pocket before him, and with my other hand smashed the Kebab and accompanying fist into the face of Turk 2. I legged it and luckily enough ran into another group of celtic fans just a few yards up the road. The turks took off down a side street and disappeared into the night.

Shannonsider is quite right about the art and if you had the time the old Flemish cities of Ghent, Antwerp and Bruges would all be worth a visit.
If however your horizon extends no further than getting buckled in Brussels then I would heartily recommend the following authentic Brussels bars
A la Mort Subite
A la Becasse
Poechendelkeller (a puppet theatre by day a bar by night)
Le Corbeau
These are all very central but not on the tourist trap Grand Place. If you must drink on the Grand Place the Roi d’Espagne is as good a spot as any.
Do remember a few basic points.
There are Irish pubs in Brussels but they are full of hateful Irish stagieres working in the Commission.
Stella Artois may be reassuringly expensive in London but in Brussels is pure pisswater and is the preserve of the homeless and the destitute.
You’ll often be proffered a plate of salami with your beer. After a few skullbusters this can be confusing but remember the golden rule - eat the salami and put your glass on the beermat.
After a hard night it is de rigeur for Irish drunks to take the Metro to the Arts Loi stop and have your picture taken under the sign for its flemish translation - Kunst Wet, or Wet Kunts as it is more popularly known amongst the expat community
fuck off you boring twat
Sorry Bandage one other point. You’ll get the best chips in Europe in Brussels. Outstanding soakage
I have decided to give +1 reputation to Fagan O’Dowd here and -1 reputation to NCC here.
We were just walking along minding our own business when a merc full of em stopped, One member of our group, a Clare man did not like the music they were playing and told em. They didn’t appreciate it one of them went to the boot of the car and pullled a shotgun out. We legged it.
Fabulous beer there.

volunteer Sean Forde was a nom de guerre of Tomas Malone a native of Mullingar who was sent to Limerick by GHQ to bolster the war effort in the Midwest. He led the Ballylanders assault as well and was considered to be an outstanding soldier , ultimately becoming brigade commandant for East Limerick
Yeah I know, I read his autobiography ‘Alias Sean Forde’. Collins sent him down to unite the divided factions in Limerick who were fighting over bullshit.

Any buckos on here ever couch surf? Thinking of couch surfing in Berlin shortly. Why bother with a hotel when you can just crash with a young Fraulein instead.
Good write up on it in the Irish times travel supplement last week or the week before

Lads not travelling alone but couldnt find other thread.
What’s the deal with Berlin?
