Yes, i’m looking forward to going for a few pints of Guinness in about an hours time. The place i’m going to i don’t think anyone drinks anything other than Guinness, it’s a small thatched cottage with an open fire and there will be a few alright sorts in there.

Is that place just off the main road? Possibly painted yellow?
There’s a pub out that way I’ve passed a few times and I always thought it looked like a right good pub.

What’s the history, drinking aside, of wrens day?

Initially, years and years and years ago before there was good sport on tv on this day wren boys used to go out and hunt the wren bird. Nowadays it’s just celebrated down my way by dressing up in ridiculous costumes and there are a number of rival fife and drum bands and they march around the town and through every pub.
Anyone who hasn’t seen it or been at it will think its nuts but it’s one of the best days of the year.

Just came from there and the only people I could see standing outside the pubs smoking were all youngsters. I believe you’ve to pay into Oscar’s tonight. I’m not bothering my hole as I’ve had a bellyfull of beer at this stage and I’m working on Wednesday.

What day of the week is today?

Sid, I’m a total pro and will need to spend all tomorrow getting myself mentally and physically sharp so I can swan about the office for the rest of the week with the rest of the “skeleton staff” (imagine if it was literally a staff of skeletons?), eating, sneaking in lunchtime pints, and watching Clarinbridge v De La Salle on the canteen telly on Friday afternoon.
