Go easy on the thinking aspect please.
He was a lovely hurler, he had good engine and way wirey out. Was very good to read things and get on the ball and was decent stickman
I wouldnāt say he was top class but on his day a fine hurler and his logevity was to be commended too.
Tony had a great engine and the heart of a lion. He had one very obvious flaw, he very often failed to get the ball into his hand first time, heād snatch at it, which got him into more trouble than he needed in county hurling. I often wondered did he need glasses, but I never said it to him.
Also he was only an average striker of the ball.
Finally he often lost his man as a back which sometimes was fatal, see Cathay Naughton
How would you rate him, brick and ken McGrath? Iād probably have Browne third.
Three very different hurlers. Ken had bags more hurling than either while Brick was as wiley as they come. Iād have Browne at his peak around the similar level as Brick both a bit below McGrath.
Browne was probably more suited to midfield than wing back IMHO
Iāll always remember cathal naughton as I watched that game on my holidays when he came on and scored 1-1 against ye. My dad went full roaster and walked all over France in search of a pub showing it.
You didnāt see ANYof Ciarans career more importantly
I actually thought Waterford missed a trick not having Tony Browne taking long range frees. Heād an awkward style but I never remember him missing one.
Heād still be the one of the great WD generation that Iād rate highest.
I do think itās a pity Ken McGrath was put back centre back for the best years of his career. He would have been an incredible weapon in the forwards
I remember seeing a match programme that chronicled Waterfords underage games and scores. Ken McGrath put up savage scores in the forwards.
M. Kavanagh (4) N. Hickey (8) N Connors (4)
P. Mannion (6) B. Hogan (6) C. Crummy (2)
Michael Kavanagh (4) Curran (2) Seamus Hickey (4)
John Gardiner (6) Sean McMahon (10) Declan Fanning (4)
Two not pretty but effective Tipp cunts but I respected them because they didnāt flop or dive.
D.Reale (2) N.Hickey (8) M.Casey (4)
T.Browne (6) B.Hogan (6) R.Maher (4)
Why did you pick Gardiner then?
Ooooffftttt
Plus a player who made a career out of slipping
Hickey tried to get Eddie Brennan sent off in 2007
Was that the year that Hickey was struck first by Brennan and then by Shefflin? Two dirty strikes on a 19 year old.
No it was the year Hickey tried to get Brennan sent off early doors, devious fucker for a 19 year old. Brennan went on to be MOTM. Hard to keep a good man down
Ah so it was the year Brennan & Shefflin took it in turns early to put the 19 year old in his place. I had a great view of it. Shefflin in particular was a big disappointment to me.
Going back to Ringy Cork were always cheating bastards so nothing new there. āTipperary for the menā so the old saying goes (paraphrasing here), except the divers of the current team.
[quote=āTheBlackSpot, post:118, topic:30918, full:trueā] I had a great view of it.
